How Drudge lit the RFK rocket

THE DRUDGE EFFECT — The Clinton traveling press view from Matt Phillips on The Wall Street Journal’s “Washington Wire” blog — “Some reporters found the streamed broadcast of the editorial meeting excruciatingly slow, rendering it unwatchable. It didn’t seem that there would be any huge news out of a routine sitdown with the editors of a small-town daily … Clinton concluded her meeting at the Argus Leader and arrived at the supermarket, where a few hundred onlookers assembled in the produce section, when the RFK comments began to reverberate around the Internet. As the New York senator was delivering her stump speech in the grocery store, reporters began receiving messages on their BlackBerrys from editors wondering about a New York Post story posted prominently on the Drudge Report that referenced the senator’s mention of the assassination.

“The bulk of the press corps soon gathered around a Clinton spokesman asking for comments and clarification on the Kennedy quotes. Seemingly taken aback by the direction the questions were going, the spokesman explained that Clinton had merely been trying to emphasize the point that Democratic primary fights had stretched into June in the past. … The fact that it did become big news is illustrative of journalistic competition in the Internet age. The entire pack of reporters sent to watch Clinton’s every move had somehow gotten beat, and forced into following a New York Post reporter who was nowhere near the campaign, but who, apparently, had a much-better Internet connection.”

Obama in an interview with Radio Isla Puerto Rico, via Chicago Tribune: "I have learned that when you are campaigning for as many months as Sen. Clinton and I have been campaigning, sometimes you get careless in terms of the statements that you make, and I think that is what happened here. … Sen. Clinton says that she did not intend any offense by it, and I will take her at her word on that."

5. Just needling the HRC camp with a little of what the Obama folks have been subjected to.
"Cultists", "Kool-aid drinker", "Obamatrons", etc.

As someone once said, politics is rough and tumble.

3. Damn, the media forced Senator Clinton to use the Kennedy assasination as an example why she should

stay in the race

Fine, she mispoke, was insensitive, or in had used an inappropriate example, but this had nothing to do with the media reporting it

I didn't see politico so upset when the Reverend Wright issue was blasted on the airwaves 24/7 for at least 1 week, and they still throw it out

Contrast that to mccain and hagee. At most maybe a day or two and then it is forgotten

4. She and McAuliffe have broached the subjesct several times before this
It seems to have been a topic which was on their minds for some time and possibly discussed.

McAuliffe has been all over TV planting seeds on the topic of something happening to Obama before the convention. Not a misspoke thing when it happens several times.

Sounds a lot like Rove's tactics to a lot of us.

8. Can you list examples of McAuliffe talking about
something happening to Obama several times? I've tried googling but haven't found anything.

When I heard Clinton's outrageous comments the other day, I wanted to give her the benefit of the doubt. I figured she misspoke due to stress, exhaustion, etc. But if McAuliffe has also brought up the subject on several occasions, then something nefarious really is happening.

11. Got TV? It's been all over it. And I believe Mr. Olbermann pointed that out too
but I have not had time to view the video of his Special Comment. Heard parts of it live. McAuliffe has been on MANY talk shows with the talking point that something might happen to Obama before the convention.

Somebody needs to drop horse parts in Terry's bed and give him some comeuppance about making veiled threats.

12. Absolutely brilliant!
Somebody needs to drop horse parts in Terry's bed and give him some comeuppance

Way to go! Absofreakinglutely brilliant! That's the spirit! Solves all our country's problems!

Another superb reference to The Godfather,* which has now surpassed the Old Testament, the New Testament, the Koran, the Book of Mormon, and the Yellow Pages as the source of all wisdom!

Political analysis just doesn't get any better than this. You are now prequalified to make a guest appearance on MSNBC or Fox News. With a little more effort, you'll qualify for a guest appearance on CNN (most likely Lou Dobbs or Glenn Beck).

*Excluding The Godfather III, of course. You may substitute Goodfellas for TGIII.

13. Yes, I've got tv
And I watch a lot of it. Mostly cable news shows and all the Sunday morning shows. I would sincerely like some quotes or video clips of McAuliffe making veiled threats about Obama. I'm not doubting it. I just would like some examples.

14. Makes you wonder why...
Makes you wonder why -- if McAuliffe has been publicly making all these veiled threats about Obama -- that there aren't any YouTube Greatest Hits compilations popping up all over the place. Yeah, yeah, it's out there, it's out there -- like WMDs in Iraq.

You know, the information loop on this is closed and circular, which is never a good sign.

That no one can cite one source of these supposed threats. I guess it's just that I don't watch tv as one poster suggested.
Yes, that's it. I am out of the loop...:eyes:

17. Check KO's site.
It was ON TV, not the internet. My husband saw him on 3 different shows. When I walked through the room, I stopped and listened a bit.

Want a link, look it up yourself. I saw it on TV show, not the internet.

I could drag him into your living room and have him tell you himself and my guess is you still would ask for a link

18. Why are you so defensive? I did not ask for a link.
Edited on Mon May-26-08 09:38 PM by DesertRat
Why are you being so rude? Drag him into my living room? No, just tell me what you heard him say "all over".

I asked for more details, maybe a quote, examples of TV shows on which he made the veiled threats toward Obama. I watch LOTS of news show on CNN and MSNBC and all the Sunday morning shows. I googled looking for a quote on a blog or maybe video of him making these threats, but found nothing. I've asked friends who also closely follow politcs who haven't heard McAuliffe making any veiled threats.

FYI, I have no dog in this fight. I didn't vote for Obama or Clinton but will happily support the nominee.
I think now that there are some people who loathe Hillary Clinton so much that they see and hear things are just not there. And there are some Obama supporters who are so nasty and insulting, that they turn others off to him.

19. Not being rude, pointing out that he was on TV
for several weeks, he has alluded to some catastrophe which would cause the need for someone else to step in.

If I am rude, it is because you are playing at being dense and I hardly think you are. As to me being defensive? You don't know me much.
