Is Obama one of us?

That’s the question many voters will be asking themselves during the next three months. How they answer it will probably decide who takes the oath in January.

Barack Obama’s spectacular world tour — ecstatic crowds, brilliant visuals, a virtual endorsement from the French president — has convinced the infatuated intelligentsia that balloting is a mere formality. But don’t be fooled. This election is far from over.

And in his cooler moments, Obama is a shrewd politician who knows that those 200,000 adoring Berliners don’t vote in Dayton or Daytona.

“This is going to be a close election for a long time,” he told a fundraiser this week, “because I’m new on the national scene and some people sort of like what they see but they’re still unsure.”

They sure are unsure. The Web site RealClearPolitics, which averages all national polls, puts Obama’s lead at a mere 2.6 points, 46.3 per cent to John McCain’s 43.7 percent. And the key states that have decided the last two elections are even closer: In Ohio, Obama’s margin is 1.5 percent; Florida is dead even; and McCain leads in Missouri by 2.5 points.

I'd certainly say so. He had jobs while attending college like us normal people, and had student loans to pay off as well. His opponent has nine houses $500 loafers, and has lived off the government dime or his rich wife for all but five really rotten years of his life. His kids ring up $50,000 a month in credit card charges. He just pimped his wife to a bunch of bikers, and has called her a cunt in public. Naturally you'll never mention this to your listeners, unlike what would be the case if Obama ever treated his wife like that.

I'm a 60 year old white woman and Obama is "One of Us".
He goes to his kids soccer games and plays, just like my husband and I did for years with our children.
His wife shops at Target, just like I do. She doesn't run up thousand of dollar credit card bills for clothes.
He wears shoes that have holes in the sole at times like my husband, not $520.00 Ferragamo's.
He has one house, not eight houses.
He respects his wife Michelle. I can't imagine Obama volunteering his wife for a sexually explicit performance such as Miss Buffalo Chip like McCain did.
Obama would not call his wife a "Cunt" to her face in public and I doubt he would ever call his wife a "Cunt" like John McCain did.
The only way McCain is similar to ordinary people's lives like mine is that he appears to have early Alzheimer's/dementia with his forgetfulness, inability to follow questions and confusion about Sunni/Shiites, Czechoslovakia, Prime Minister Putin of Germany and the Iraq Pakistan border. My mother who died at 93 had dementia in her last year of life so I sympathize with McCain's family as his dementia will worsen over time.
But having dementia doesn't make him a good candidate for President despite it making him be more like the ordinary American who very likely has a family member with dementia.
