Comeback Kid: Biden's memoir now a best - seller \ By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS
Published: August 24, 2008 Filed at 10:35 a.m. ET
NEW YORK (AP) -- A memoir by Sen. Joe Biden, once as forgotten as his presidential run, is now a best seller. A day after Sen. Barack Obama chose Biden as his running mate for the Democratic ticket, Biden's ''Promises to Keep: On Life and Politics'' was in the top 10 on Barnes & Noble.com and in the top 40 on Amazon.com.
It was so in demand that on Sunday it was listed as out of stock by both booksellers.
I'm glad for him--he has fewer assets than any other Senator. His book sales should increase his income considerably.

3. I haven't bought his book yet - when I've had cash I sent it to him or Obama |
|
But I bookmarked an eBay auction of a book a few days before the announcement to try to buy it. There is now a bidding war on it!

6. What sold me on Biden yesterday was |
|
CSpan re-played 2 things featuring Joe Biden - a 1 hr interview in-studio interview with him from earlier this year and a 1 hr presentation he gave to the National Press Club when his memoir came out last year where his whole family was in attendance at the speaker's table.
What came through to me from both of those presentations was that is a sense that Joe Biden is a down-to-earth, authentic, humble, deeply-feeling compassionate and REAL human being who has the capacity to relate to people from all walks of life. He also happens to be well-grounded in the real world, is smart, articulate and unafraid to speak the truth.
I've stayed out of the veep-stakes conversations here on DU because I trusted Obama to make a good decision and felt that I didn't need to be trying to second-guess him. Biden has some history that I wish he didn't carry but today, I gotta say that I'm thrilled that he's been selected as Obama's running mate and I'll be proud beyond words to see him represent our country in the role of Vice President of the United States next January.
Go 'BAMA!!!!!!!!

Thanks for pointing that out. Some of the used books are listed at over $75. It is going to become a collectible.

I got my copy out yesterday and was re-reading some parts. I remember after I finished reading the book, I got up and went straight to my computer to contribute to his campaign. I still have the thank you note I got from him.

10. Joe Biden is a comeback kid. |
|
I was touched by an earlier post where a friend of his said Joe really didn't think he would get the call. Joe Biden makes good things happen to him and pulls himself up when it doesn't. I do hope he can at least get out of debt with his booksales.
This is Joe's reward for being such a good guy.
Its funny though...I don't remember all this hype for Edwards a few years back. Did I just miss it?

11. The response to Biden has been overwhelming -- |
|
and it's taken us Biden supporters by surprise. I've also seen posts where people weren't too sure about him, but changed their minds after yesterday's speech, and are now enthusiastic. Overwhelming.

12. I think we didn't realize what a good guy he was. |
|
And now that we are learning, we are kind of blown away.
I really do think that half the reason Obama picked Biden is because he respects him as a man and a father. Obama has gravitated towards these types all his life, not as a father for himself of course, but as people he respects and wants to be around.

13. That's because commercial media only covered primary 'frontrunners' |
|
That seems like such a long time ago, doesn't it?
Regardless, I'm thrilled he was selected to run w/Obama. He's the most straightforward and fearless candidate on the Dem. presidential ticket that I can remember for at least a generation!

14. My perception was that he was more conservative than he really is (91% ACLU score) |
|
So far, I've donated money to Kucinich (100% ACLU congressional scorecard), Dodd (85%) and Obama (80%). Of course, when it looked like it could be Biden or Bayh, I fervently hope that Obama would choose Biden. Now that I also know a little more about him personally, I'm even more pleased.
I ordered a copy of the book too; I hope he makes millions in book sales.

15. Biden has always been my personal favorite |
|
For some reason (I don't live anywhere near Delaware), Biden caught my attention years ago from the Senate. He was definitely my pick for President and when he dropped out after Iowa, I was so distraught that I wouldn't even turn on the tv or computer for WEEKS! So, needless to say I'm extremely happy with this news. I can't think of even ONE other politician that even comes close to the amount of integrity and honor that I have seen from Biden. Don't get me wrong, I have contributed to Obama several times in the past year, and think very highly of him, but I still wish Biden could be pres. instead of vp.

and I am so proud of him. I have been a very long time supporter and I too, wish that he was the presidential candidate, but it is what it is and it helps me to see Obama in a little different light. I will comfortably be able to vote for and support him now. Obama's introductory speech of Joe was I felt, very sincere and heartfelt. They will be an awesome team.

There were a lot of us who were distraught in January. We all took comfort from one another. I wish you had known about us then. Its tough going it alone.
