Before she was named McCain's Vice Presidential nominee today, no one except for the seven people who live in Alaska ever heard of Gov. Sarah Palin -- or that she came in second place at the 1984 Miss Alaska pageant. Palin did win Miss Wasilla and the coveted Miss Congeniality award. So who cares what her economic plan is?

... On the merits, it must be said that this is a deeply irresponsible and unserious choice. Someone who's been governor of a small, remote and comparatively unimportant state for a year and a half is not in any way, shape or form the best possible choice he could have made. Democrats need to say that, too.

Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin (R), Sen. John McCain’s (R-Ariz.) running mate, faces an investigation over her controversial firing of a public safety commissioner.
State lawmakers approved an investigation late last month into whether the governor retaliated against former commissioner Walt Monegan for not firing a state trooper entangled in a divorce and ongoing custody battle with Palin’s sister. The investigation will also examine whether Palin or any of her family members pressured Monegan to fire state trooper Mike Wooten because of the messy divorce ...
