John McCain: Taking the low road (Globe and Mail)

... Mr. McCain is entering treacherous territory. The attacks have failed to put a dent in Mr. Obama's formidable lead in the polls, and the great bulk of American voters appear to be quite sensibly more interested in their financial statements than in re-fighting the 1960s culture wars ...

Observers from across the political spectrum have noticed an increasingly vicious tone at Republican rallies ... Mr. McCain's former chief strategist, John Weaver, called it an "angry mob mentality" ...

Mr. McCain is opening Pandora's box. For the sake of his country, he should close it tightly, and fight out the remainder of the campaign on policy.
