Conservative Columnist Says White House Officials Want Palin Off Ticket

Last month, conservative columnist Kathleen Parker wrote a scathing column saying that Gov. Sarah Palin (R-AK) is "way out of her league" as the GOP's vice presidential candidate and called on the Alaska governor to "bow out" of the race in order to "save McCain, her party, and the country she loves."

Parker has subsequently noted angry responses from conservatives around the country. "To the GOP base, predictably, I'm a traitor," Parker wrote.

Last night on the Colbert Report, Parker reiterated her belief that Palin is not qualified for the GOP ticket, but she also revealed that some White House officials have told her that they secretly agree:

1. I would agree that "Country First" demands that Palin go back to Alaska and dissolve
into obscurity.

3. Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if more than a few Bush white house persons...
... are voting for Obama.

I'm talking staffers, etc.

Given that most of them didn't like McCain to begin with, and given that everyone outside the evangelical hardcore base can see Palin is a joke and dangerous...

... truly a bizarre turn of events of hardcore anti-Bush opponents are suddenly being joined by Bushies in voting against McCain.

4. OK, let's be real about this for a moment
Why would the Bush WH object to Sarah "Bush-in-a-skirt" Failin'?

Qualifications? Bad in front of the press? Pisses off the public? Hell No! -- none of this ever stopped dubya.

Her sudden popularity might interfere with Jeb's ambitions in 4 years???

Now that sounds more like it......

5. Well, that would be quite an October Surprise, but...
To keep from alienating the fanatical fundie fringe, they'd have to replace her with somebody like the Huckster or Pat Robertson, and I don't think it would help them.

6. criticizing the administration
by the other party is one thing, but when someone representing the republican party as inexperienced as Sarah Palin comes out saying that "No Child Left Behind" isn't working, it had to anger the administration as well as other party leaders.
