GOP files criminal complaint against Lunsford (McConnell's opponent)
GILBERTSVILLE, Ky. -- A bizarre sequence of events after a debate in the U.S. Senate race led Republicans to file a criminal complaint yesterday against Democrat Bruce Lunsford for snapping up a GOP group's digital recording device as he left the podium.

Achim Bergmann, a consultant with Lunsford's campaign, called the entire matter "ridiculous" and said it's "a clear sign of desperation by Mitch McConnell," the Republican incumbent.

The device was returned a few minutes later after the Republican staffer to whom it belonged complained to Marshall County Sheriff Kevin Byars. But by then all the material on the recorder had been erased, Republicans said.

The complaint, filed with the Marshall County attorney's office, asks that charges of petty larceny and destruction of property be filed in connection with the incident, according to Rebecca Fisher, a spokeswoman for the National Republican Senatorial Committee.

1. Give me a break

And isn't it illegal to record someone without notifying them? He should file a
complaint against the McConnell campaign.

2. I think recording devices are allowed at such events BUT
placing it on Lunsford's podium went too far. I don't think it broke the law for Lunsford to carry it away from the podium and even to erase it. But, then, I'm not an attorney!

3. So if somebody "leaves" something
on my desk at work and I pick it up along with my belongings I am guilty of theft? If that something happens to be a working recording device they are not guilty of eavesdropping (at least)!

Maybe instead of erasing the latest recording they could have downloaded everything on that device. Who knows what they would have heard!

4. Waaaaaa! Mommy that bad man broke my toy!
I heard a mother talking to a four year old outside a grocery store and she told him "you are whining, you know you are not allowed to whine, I won't pay attention to you now." That seems to be the proper way to deal with the GOP at this point, it seemed to work on the little kid.

8. I am surprised that they haven't filed criminal complaints on EVERY Dem
running for office this year. They're desperate and will use the police state to try to limp past the election
