Poll: Texans increasingly worried about Iraq
58% say progress lacking By TONY FREEMANTLE Copyright 2004 Houston Chronicle
Texans are increasingly concerned about the course of U.S. involvement in Iraq and they are evenly split over whether to believe President Bush's assertion that the capture of Saddam Hussein has made the United States safer from terrorism, according to a Scripps Howard Texas Poll released Sunday.
Fifty-eight percent of the 1,000 adult Texans surveyed disapproved of the way things are going in Iraq nearly a year after U.S. troops invaded the country and toppled its dictator, the poll found.
That assessment was largely split along political party lines. Sixty-two percent of the respondents who identified themselves as Republicans rated the progress "excellent" or "good," while 82 percent of those who identified themselves as Democrats described it as "fair" or "poor." The poll has a margin of error of plus or minus 3 percentage points.

There's only a little bit more to the article, including some previous stats.. The poll was taken between 2-12-04 and 3-3-04. It also discusses how only 34% think WMD will be found, but still, 3/5 think the war was worth it.

1. This can be easily overcome by more media coverage of Iraqis killed |
|
that would be perceived as "good news."

"Gotta kill more-a' dem gol-durned rag-heads..." (WTF?)
Information on soldiers killed is fleeting on many Texas' cities local news programs.

3. This could easily be reinforced too though |
|
A great number of Texans serve in our armed forces. Show em pictures of their sons and daughters coming home in body bags and they'll come around to acknowledge what we have all along.

4. Do you seriously believe this? |
|
I mean honestly. Is this a proposition that you hold true, given the context set out in the initial article?
I just want to be clear on whether you're offering empty, bloody snark, or are setting forth something you believe to be true.
