Why Al Franken should NOT be riding private planes
by Harvey Wasserman | December 24, 2008 - 10:28am

by Bob Fitrakis & Harvey Wasserman

The tragic and suspicious death of Karl Rove's election thief in chief should send a clear message to Al Franken and other key liberals: don't be riding in any small private planes.

snip//

Coleman was hand-picked by Karl Rove to run against Wellstone. His ensuing victory over stand-in candidate Walter Mondale was the highly unlikely outcome of a messy, manipulated election that coincided with equally dubious senatorial vote counts in Georgia and Colorado.

Al Franken may now be poised to take back the Wellstone seat for the Democratic Party. As an Air America talk host, he repeatedly mocked those who were investigating the theft of the 2004 election.

But he now owes the possibility of being elected to the diligent work of election protection activists who have fought all these years for fair, open and reliable vote counts. Had former Ohio Secretary of State J. Kenneth Blackwell been in charge of this year's Minnesota election, Franken would not even be in the running.

Ironically, a brutal right-wing hate campaign is now being waged against Franken, charging him with election theft. Among other things, it claims he "went to Hollywood" for money to steal his way into the Senate.

Were it not for the deaths of so many others before him, such talk could be dismissed out of hand.

But under the circumstances, we would strongly urge Al Franken not to be flying in any small planes.

1. I would think Al Franken's already considered that. He & Wellstone were close.

14. He wrote about Wellstone in one of his books
and as I recall, he seemed to imply that Wellstone's death was suspicious.

10. You're actually giving the freepers too much credit
There are plenty on that side of the fence that go for the tin foil nonsense, too. Vince Foster, anyone?

Being a tin foiler doesn't make you liberal, it makes you paranoid and easily duped.

11. Better to wear a tin foil hat than a tin foil blindfold.

12. You don't belive in coincidence?
Maybe someone has printed that in big, bold letters over and over again, so you've come to believe it?

If you don't believe in coincidence, how do you explain Vince Foster?

13. I believe in looking at each situation independently.
This situation does not smell like coincidence.

6. Nahhh, Al isn't much of a threat to these guys.
My bet is he doesn't even stand up for election integrity once this all said and done. And he'll be a well behaved DLC Democrat. Nothing even near the threat to the establishment that a truth-teller like Wellstone was.

7. No matter who is doing it
I love Al. I've read all his books. We share a sense of outrage at anybody who tries to con the public. Mostly, Al writes about liars.

If Al didn't believe in the 2004 election fraud its because there is no credible evidence of it.

It angers me that the GOP doesn't return the favor and not accuse Al of anything without strong evidence to back up what they say. I hate people who do that. But I have to hate the wrong and not the person who committed it, so I have to hate all unfounded allegations of vote fraud, no matter who is doing it.

That goes for the guys pushing the plane crash murder conspiracy theory hoax as well.
