is that anyone needs Chris Hedges to tell Americans that the reason people become suicide bombers is that they have hellish and hellishly impossible lives.

Your brother is laying dead next to her and your home is fully demolished.

You ain't got nothing but "grief and hatred" ... No hope for the future. Given the forgoing scenario being played out in many forms now in Gaza, how many of us could HONESTLY search our souls and come back 100% certain that if your family and home were destroyed, you would NOT strap on a suicide bomb belt and go pay a visit to your oppressors?

not having ever had to be so disenfranchised and desperate.

You're a better woman than me because I honestly DON'T KNOW and sometimes FEAR that I am capable of horrific deeds when/if provoked and continuously degraded.

Psychological studies suggest that the vast majority of humans "act out" when stressed beyond what the human moral conscious is able to endure.

With regard to countering occupation and/or oppression the ONLY SUCCESSFUL OPTION is the application of Guerrilla Warfare. It worked for the Vietnamese against our troops during the 1960s-1970s; it's presently being employed in both Iraq and Afghanistan; and it will continue to be used by any group of people who are oppressed and devoid of military might.

Israel will not "kill them all" and those left will fight for the land to their last dying breath. We killed 2 million Vietnamese but that did not deter their guerrilla attacks. The Vietnamese had "all the time in the world" because they were already home and didn't have much to lose ... they waited us out. Although we WON essentially every firefight, we lost THE WAR in Vietnam.
