President Obama speaks at Holocaust Days of Remembrance Ceremony
http://www.examiner.com/examiner/x-5890-Obama-Administration-Examiner~y2009m4d25-President-Obama-speaks-at-Holocaust-Days-of-Remembrance-Ceremony">Excerpt:

President Obama spoke before the Holocaust Days of Remembrance Ceremony, April 24, 2009 (See speech below).

The U.S. Congress established the Days of Remembrance as our nation's annual commemoration of the Holocaust and created the U.S. Holocaust memorial Museum as a permenent living memorial to the victims.

This year Raphael Lemkin, the Polish-Jewish lawyer who coined the word "genocide" was honored. Lemkin took on the cause of working towards preventing genocide and partly due to his efforts, the United Nations approved the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide in 1948.

The past is past and it is human nature to look forward but we cannot allow ourselves the luxury of forgetting the past lest we doom ourselves to repeat it. The Holocaust Remembrance Memorial Museum offers advice on how to hold a commemoration in your community and offers information for survivors and their families.

1. Thank you for this
It was so chilling when Obama spoke of the the fact that Nazi Germany was one of the most educated and advanced societies in the world when this happened. Has anyone really anwered the question (ineloquently paraphrased by me) "How did Germany get so batshit crazy so easily?"

2. It was the economy, pure and simple but Germany still hasn't
recovered from wwII in some ways. Science coming out of Germany still hasn't caught up with the rest of the world and partly because under Hitler, scientists were only allowed to produce information that Hitler deemed was good for Germany.
