Study Links Cigarette Changes to Rising Lung Risk.
It may be riskier on the lungs to smoke cigarettes today than it was a few decades ago -- at least in the U.S., says new research that blames changes in cigarette design for fueling a certain type of lung cancer.

Up to half of the nation's lung cancer cases may be due to those changes, Dr. David Burns of the University of California, San Diego, told a recent meeting of tobacco researchers.

1. I don't smoke butts anymore...
I quit smoking butts in 1998...and since then only smoke the good stuff...I used to have at least 2 upper respiratory infections per year when I smoke cigarettes. Since I quit, I haven't had a single one and I smoke pot almost every day....Hmm?

2. Interesting. Glad I quit. Has anyone factored in the level of indoor and outdoor air pollution?
We now have so many chemicals wafting around in our lives that's it hard not to imagine they are damaging our lungs too regardless of whether one smokes cigarettes, but maybe even moreso in combination with cigarette smoke.

Insecticides in our homes; cleaning fluids and cleansers; auto exhaust fumes; outgassing from carpets, paints, etc.; incomplete combustion of gas and oil furnaces; and many, many more.
