"14,000 Americans . . . lose their health insurance every single day."

Politifact checked Obama's statement that 14,000 people lose health insurance every day. Their conclusion. IT's a pretty good number.

"Obama was very close to Holohan's calculations — in fact he was slightly low. But as Haislmaier pointed out, the stimulus COBRA provisions could reduce the numbers because more people will still be covered. We can't be sure until the data is in. So in the meantime, we find Obama’s claim Mostly True."

2. I don't want the govt coming between me and my lack of healthcare.
I want insurance companies to do that.

3. Medical Insurance premiums forecasted to double in 10 years.
here's the best review and projection of health insurance premiums I've found. Chenck out the chart at link. Looks like the trend line will reach about $29,000 - $30,000 (premiums for typical family) by 2020 (compared to $15,000 in 2010).

When Premiums Rise 20%...

7. Hanging on
to my healthcare - but by a thread. Recently fell and broke my ankle. Luckily I had BC/BS, but a $5000 deductible. Still, it has cost me almost $10,000, and I'm one of the LUCKY ones. I'm single, 61, and am lucky to have my premium paid by my employer. But effective 10/01, my premium goes up to $563/mo. We desperately need a public option. May not happen for me, but I pray it does for my kids and future generations.

8. THis is a real good example of what it means to be insured. You still have to pay a lot whenever
Edited on Tue Aug-11-09 04:09 PM by JohnWxy
you use your insurance. How much of an increase is that (to $563/mo) - this would be representative of most people in your state.

I don't know how many, but some portion of those of us insured will be losing it in the next 5 to 10 years. Then people will be crying for a lifeboat (unless you can pay for a proceedure of say $21,000 - that's one not even considered surgery - by yourself).

9. Here's what $563/mo inflated at 6.8% per yr looks like over 10 years
2009 $563.00
2010 $601.37
2011 $642.35
2012 $686.12
2013 $732.88
2014 $782.82
2015 $836.17
2016 $893.15
2017 $954.01
2018 $1,019.02
2019 $1,088.47

6.8% per yr is 93% increas over 10 years, the rate health insurance is going up now.
