Poll: 86 percent say insurance, public or private, should be available to all
http://www.denverpost.com/news/ci_13203651

Nearly 8 in 10 Americans support a federal health insurance plan for those who can't afford or can't get private insurance, but only 37 percent define "public option" correctly, a new national poll found.

The majority of people polled — 86 percent — say insurance should be available to everyone regardless of health history.

The poll was conducted over the Internet by Penn, Schoen & Berland Associates.

It was released in conjunction with an AARP forum at the Tattered Cover Book Store with Charlie Cook, publisher of The Cook Political Report.

Cook told a crowd Tuesday that President Barack Obama's biggest mistake may have been passing off health care reform to Congress, which polls show the public doesn't trust as much as the president.

1. These polls are fucking meaningless
There is too much Goddamn misinformation out there. I never imagined how many people could defend a severely flawed (I'd call it broken) system. Maybe people have Stockholm syndrome of sorts. Either that or an abusive father or husband... After being so used to being beaten down by insurance companies people can't even imagine an alternative which isn't so fucked up.

Or maybe people like constantly begging for procedures to be covered or like paying premiums and co-pays out of the ass.

2. I agree with this part
President Barack Obama's biggest mistake may have been passing off health care reform to Congress, which polls show the public doesn't trust as much as the president.

It might not be too late. All he has to do is go on TV, and say, "Unless we do something, a year from now 1 out of 6 Americans will be unable to get health insurance, because they can't afford it, or they lost their benefit, or because the private insurers won't cover them because they're already sick. I am not going to let these Americans die"

He just doesn't seem to have enough FDR in him.

4. ... and why does he use 'have insurance' as the fall-back position?
Edited on Wed Aug-26-09 01:43 PM by Myrina
who gives a flying rat's ass about having an insurance policy if it still won't cover 75% of what you need, when you need it?

the position should be AFFORDABLE AND AVAILABLE HEALTH CARE FOR EVERYONE.

3. I wouldn't trust this poll
One of the questions asks whether they'd object to paying higher premiums. Sounds more like a push poll to me.
It might be more interesting to poll them, then educate them, and then poll them again.

Also, the author of the article mentions that the public doesn't trust Congress as much as the President. Polls of Congressional approval are *always* flawed. People tend to like their own representatives of their own party, and then don't like congress as a whole because the other party is there.

5. This is one poll Corporate media won't be talking about!!
Edited on Wed Aug-26-09 02:13 PM by JohnWxy
I thought this part was telling:

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Among the 1,000 Democrats, Republicans and independents surveyed on Aug. 12 and 13, 79 percent say they believe a federal government health insurance option should be available for people to buy.

Yet about one-fourth of those polled believe the "public option" is a national health care system, similar to the one in Great Britain."
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This shows how effective the Disinformation campaign of insurers and their lobbyists (GOP) has been. Kill necessary insurance reform by confusing people so they think their life-boat is a shark coming after them. Devilishly effective ... of course, let's give credit to M$M for playing up the disinformation and those who like being hysterical over fantasy monsters instead of informing people.

Mainstream Corporate Media, where would the GOP be without them?? OF course, what's democracies prognosis with this demonic partnership undermining it.

RECOMMENDED.
