WSJ: Why Democrats Are Losing on Health Care |
|
The final paragraph of the article:
"Yes, Democrats can prove that America pays more for health care than other countries; yes, they have won the dispute that private health insurance is needlessly expensive. But what they've lost is the argument that we are a society."
This, in a nutshell, is the problem. This is a battle of fundamental philosophy. You're either a YOYO (you're on your own) or you're for collectively working together.

5. Did you even read the article? |
|
The article is pro-social-health-care. The point they are making is that Democrats are not making the social case for it.

3. "...they've lost is the argument that we are a society." Wow. Impressive. |
|
That anyone at WSJ could actually think deeply enough to come up with that.
And I agree; as a "society", America is very rapidly falling apart.

9. Because they're not Leaders |
|
At best you can call them managers.
They manage their stock portfolios, they manage to give themselves COLA every year, they manage to convince stupid people to keep sending them back to Congress, where they manage to get all kinds of money from the same corporations that they are responsible for regulating.
So, they are good managers, but they sure as hell aren't leaders!!!

6. Neoliberal economics (free trade, globalism) is based on "Every man for himself" |
|
Yet the "invisible hand" of the market is said to be the modern day spaghetti monster which must be obeyed in all things. The idea that we can become a more civil society via corporatism is incoherent.

7. we're losing because the corporatist right wing OWNS the media |
|
The brutal fact is that the only reason single payer and the public option might be defeated is that everyday in America there are HUNDREDS of hours of blatant propaganda, lies and misdirection.
