Glenn Beck is no doubt preening like a peacock, with a feather in his tinfoil hat for what I’m sure he believes is his success in ridding the country of one Van Jones, President Obama’s former Green Czar.
Van Jones is a bit of a radical, there’s no doubt. Whether he knew what he was signing or not, he signed the Truther petition -- “a petition in 2004 calling for congressional hearings and an investigation by the New York Attorney General into ‘evidence that suggests high-level government officials may have deliberately allowed the September 11th attacks to occur’” -- way back when. But Beck is more than a little radical, himself, and he’s an expert at stirring up the crazies. His attacks on Van Jones for being a radical are a case of pot, meet kettle.
-----
Glenn Beck went after Van Jones with all the tenacity of a mongoose after a cobra. Of course, it wouldn’t have had anything to do with the fact that Van Jones is co-founder of colorofchange.org, the organization that was highly successful in causing 57 – 57! -- advertisers to abandon Glenn Beck’s Fox News show after he referred to President Obama as a racist.
-----
For someone whose paranoid fantasies include a government take-over of everything, Beck doesn’t seem to have a problem with his own McCarthy-like witchhunts. In fact, in a recent broadcast, he said, “We are compiling a list of all things that bloggers are calling me this week.” A blogger hit list – how absolutely Joseph McCarthy. Are he and Michelle Bachmann – she of the “Barack and Michelle Obama hold anti-American views and can’t be trusted in the White House” -- going to get together, trade conspiracy theories, and investigate Democrats in Congress, every liberal in the country, and everyone in the Obama Administration to “find out if they are pro-America or anti-America?”
As far as I'm concerned, Jones could advertise himself as a communist, scream from the rooftops that high-level government officials didn’t prevent 9/11, and wear a t-shirt that says “I am a Marxist.” But in my mind, Glenn Beck, with his knack for inciting the fringe lunatics, is far more dangerous to this country than Van Jones could ever be.
