Fix ‘Meet The Press’, Hire Rachel Maddow
http://trueslant.com/donovan/2009/10/17/fix-meet-the-press-hire-rachel-maddow/

"It’s nothing personal against Gregory, he does a respectable job. But Tim Russert’s shoes were ridiculously hard to fill, and most anyone would’ve been a let down. Which is why it’s time for MTP to make another change. It’s not about the guy who replaces the legend, it’s about the guy who replaces the guy who replaces the legend. He (or she) is the one that really has a shot. A chance to step out of the shadow, to be their own host, to make the show in their image, not as a reflection of the great one who came before them. And that person is Rachel Maddow."

:woohoo:

1. Before anyone goes ape shit. She knows that her more snarky stuff
wouldn't go well in the format.

Her prime time show is HER show...she made it how she wanted it.

MTP is different and she'd do well in that format. Better than DG.

5. Agree. But she knows how to play it straight, too. She'd be great.

4. Meh. Six of one...
Any show that makes its money by putting a live microphone in front of a politician is flawed from the outset.

16. I thought the Evil Elf was awesome, and I love Rachel, but those shows are so yucky.

6. Rachel would be great. I can also think of others who would ask
real questions at NBC these days. I have seldom watched Dylan Ratigan, but have heard some good things.
The thing about Rachel is that she won't let people BS her.

10. Rachel is honest and has ethics
which automatically excludes her from consideration for MTP.

11. My flame suit is on...
Rachael is remarkably good at what she does on her show.
However Meet the press should be done with someone who's integrity is akin to Russert's.
NOT knocking Maddows integrity but she does carry a "leftist" track record. (not that that is bad)

AS Russert grilled EVERYONE Right and Left. That's what made it great. Until that objective someone is found, MTP will have to do with Gregory.

12. Outlived their purpose...
Back in the pre-cable news days and before every friggin' reporter and politician suffered from media overexposure, the Sunday political talk shows served a (very limited) purpose: select elected officials and bureaucrats would get some airtime to try to frame recent events/issues to their advantage. Do we really need 4 or 5 more hours of political talk programming?

I say scrap the Sunday morning talk shows and show more cartoons and expand the sports pre-game shows....

13. OK, here you go...
Russert was not the worst, but he came up working for Democrats. He was not even handed and gave Bush associates an easy ride.

Rachel will go after anybody, right or left, including Obama. What if a person is "objective" in differentiating right from wrong? Or maybe you just should withdraw that term in a context where it is meaningless. For instance, is granting equal rights to all people objective? Or should we split the difference?
