It’s never occurred to me to trace an IP address. If anyone ever threatens me, I will get the authorities to do whatever they do. But the activities of Orly Taitz’s mad minions, since the summer, in tracking and exposing (they stupidly believe) anyone who sends a nasty email to Her Birther Queenn-ness made me curious enough to read about it.
As I understand it, when you view a web site, an Internet address lets the site owner know someone on a computer with a certain IP address was there that day. Probably everyone on earth already knows to do this, but I was prompted to look at the stats for this web site, and, sure enough, there you are. But that does not mean I can find your house or your job site.
It means that when you visited Oh, For Goodness Sake one day, I might be able to tell you were in the Mid-Atlantic region, say, or on the West Coast, or wherever, but you may have been in a coffee shop, a hotel lobby, your Aunt Tessie’s sister’s neighbor’s house in the Jersey Pine Barrens or the Inland Empire, an airport lounge in Delaware or Oregon—even on a computer you owned and replaced fifteen minutes later, giving you a new IP address, with the previous one already assigned elsewhere.
But even if you are in your own house on your own computer, I can only tell where in the world that IP address covered at a particular time. I can’t discern you from your several thousand neighbors, who may be sharing an Internet service provider with you. I can’t tell that the IP address an Internet service provider used for you wasn’t switched, an hour after you were here, from the West Coast to the East Coast. Law enforcement, with a court order, can work with the service provider to break down the data and localize an incident, but I can’t, even if I cared where you were from, which I don’t. The same goes for email headers.
Ask Leo, who has been rather frustrated on the topic, and Leo will answer:
I’m going to say this a few times because people don’t seem to get it when I’ve said it in the past, so please bear with me:
No, you cannot get someone’s name, phone number or specific location from their IP address.
I’m not trying to be a smart-ass or intentionally mean but please, read that sentence again. I’m trying to be as clear as I can be so that people will get the answer.
Now, you can’t do it, but the police (or law-enforcement in general) can. But for some reason people think that because the police can, anyone can. That’s just not the way it works.
Sounds like Leo’s been talking to Orlybots and they are not listening.
The tragic killing spree at Ft. Hood, Texas produced the following xenophobic, disgracefully opportunistic, irresponsible, and outrageous, Birfoonist hate-mongering from Dr. Orly Taitz, Esq.:
MAJ. MALIK NADAL HASAN KILLS 12 AND WOUNDS 31 AT FORT HOOD. ASK OBAMA AND NAPOLITANO, IF THEY STILL THINK THAT VETERANS AND PRO LIFE CHRISTIANS ARE THE BIGGEST TERRORIST THREAT? OR JUST MAYBE, THOSE ARE MUSLIM MEN 20-40 Y.O.ASK CORRUPT JUDGES: DO MEMBERS OF US MILITARY HAVE A RIGHT TO ASK IF THE PRES IS LEGITIMATE?

Not helpful, Orly, when the nation is in a state of trauma and grief, your ugly, reactionary exploiting of the hate. Can you not find the grace to refrain even for a day from your mission to incite violence and sedition among our military? Does your hatred of Muslims mean you should show no respect for the dead? Do you take your duties as officer of the court so lightly that you do not allow an investigation to play out before exhibiting your extraordinary narcissistic density.
IT’S LIKE GOD IS TELLING YOU:”PAY ATTENTION”. MY FIRST CASE ON BEHALF OF MY CLIENT CPT. CONNIE RHODES MD WAS FILED IN TX. JUDGE XAVIER RODRIGUEZ HAVE DISMISSED THE CASE WITHIN HOURS OF FILING, CALLING ADHERENCE TO THE OATH TO UPHOLD THE CONSTITUTION “A FRIVOLOUS MATTER”

massacare at Fort Hood, connection to my cases or how corrupt judges endanger the Nation
It’s not about you, you horrible person. It’s not about you. It’s not about you.
Also not helpful, also in need of restraint, though somewhat more understandable, is this reaction to that reaction:

The shootings in Texas at military base happened because they were worried about being deployed to iraq – BECAUSE OF THE LIES YOU HAVE MADE UP ABOUT THE PRESIDENT.
You have incited terrorism now with your lies and you will probably burn for it. The government can get you and charge you for not only sedition but inciting terrorism.
Thank Allah Orly will finally burn!
Though I admit to an instinctive agreement with the first two paragraphs, in a general way, it doesn’t help Muslims, who will be facing ignorance and hatred in the coming days—nor does it help the grieving military—to play into Orly the Hater’s hands.
I don’t sympathize with soldiers who are educated by the taxpayers and then don’t want to deploy when payback time comes. I didn’t with Capt. Rhodes, either. But I do know that if, God forbid, one of Taitz’s military clients had gone berserk and opened fire on a crowd while shouting “Praise Jesus!” all white Christians would not have to suffer for it.
Orly’s response? Almost automatic:
CAN SOMEONE TRACE THIS GUY’S IP? THEY HAVE ALREADY DISCONNECTED A FUEL EMISSIONS HOSE IN MY CAR, GOD KNOWS WHAT WILL THEY DO NEXT
Provoking this:

No one disconnected your hose you paranoid schizophrenic woman. Your place has been under surveillance for a year, it would have been known if anyone attempted to sabatoge you.
I do want to thank you though; You have given us so much evidence to use against you and get you locked up. Your paranoid ramblings will probably ensure you will go to a mental ward instead of a prison but either way ALLAH WILL BE VICTORIUS. You will pay for your sins against muslims behind locked doors.
And one of Orly’s followers obliges, tracing the IP address to a location in Virginia serviced by Verizon.
She asks:
CAN SOMEONE CONTACT RESTON, VA POLICE?

Dr. Orly Taitz, Esq.: Why don’t you call them?
Another Orlybot traces the same IP address, (where else?), to Washington State.
Orly asks:
