Clear Channel Launches the David Sirota Show

for DS fans:

"Friends:

Many of you know I've been filling in as a radio host for the last 9 months, and so I wanted to share some big personal/professional news with you: Today, Clear Channel made it official by announcing the launch of The David Sirota Show - a daily drive-time radio show each weekday from 7am-10am MST (9am-12pm ET). The show is anchored at KKZN-AM760, Clear Channel's statewide progressive talk station here in Colorado. You can listen in at AM760 locally here in Colorado, or online from anywhere at http://www.am760.net/pages/DavidSirota.html

I will still be writing my weekly syndicated newspaper column and my book, and this is a really great opportunity to add to that work. But this is not just a great opportunity for me, but for us as a movement. It's an opportunity for discussion, debate and journalistic analysis from a progressive perspective each and every weekday morning right here in the Great American Heartland. And here's the thing - we're not going to be carrying any water for either political party. As I said in the Clear Channel press release that I've attached, "Talk radio often ends up being a mindless screaming match between Democratic and Republican Party propagandists - but what we need is more frank debate, honest discussion and tough questions."

In the last 9 months of filling in, we've had terrific guests - from U.S. Senators like Bernie Sanders and Michael Bennet; to national journalists like Bill Moyers, Naomi Klein, David Brancaccio, Rachel Maddow and Dylan Ratigan; to legendary writers and comedians like Carl Reiner, Lewis Black, James Ellroy, Steven Coonts, Noam Chomsky and Chuck Klosterman. We're trying to provide a solid mix of politics and pop culture (the intersection of which is what my upcoming book is all about) - and it should be quite a ride.

Obviously, if you have topic/guest ideas, please send them along here, or go to the show's website at http://www.am760.net/pages/DavidSirota.html I'm going to need your help to make this the best show it can possibly be.

Again, I've attached the full press release from Clear Channel. If you want to know more about the show and some thoughts about what we aim to achieve, check out Westword's new article on the show at http://blogs.westword.com/latestword/2009/12/david_sirota_to_permanently_re.php

Rock the boat,
David"

He's terrific and we're so lucky to have had him all these many months when he was filling in for Jay Marvin. Sirota was always articulate as a guest and he's really found his groove on the radio as the host.

I have to wonder how long we'll have him on the radio. He's so personable and the camera likes him. I think he's destined for more.

5. He's been on here in the Denver area for months
Maybe Clear Chan will syndicate the show. That would be great for Sirota and the country. He's fearless. :D

3. Jay was very wise to get SIrota as his temporary, now permanent
replacement. Sirota had the talent, now doubt, but I do think this time allowed him to really shine.

I wish Jay Marvin well... It sounds like he still has one hell of a road to travel to get his health back. Sirota and Jay's mentoring of him, seems to be a final gift from Marvin to the progressive radio community.

7. Clear Channel?
The same Clear Channel that made a list of songs not to be played in the aftermath of 9/11? The same Clear Channel that censored criticism of Arbusto W. Fuckstick & the glorious invasion & occupation of Iraq? CLear Channel...the same Clear Channel that blacklisted the Dixie Chicks?

I'm kidding. I realize that Clear Channel now runs Air America programming on some of its affiliates. It's still surprising to consider how the company stepped back from the brink - an utter tool of BushCo.

This is good news indeed. David Sirota is a true heavyweight, and I look forward to the nationwide launch of his show.

8. Good for him. I remember when he used to be on
Air America as a guest a few years ago. I always like his analysis of what was going on. Clear Channel has come a long way since it went after the Dixie Chicks. Wonder what happened?

David is always good on television also, even when he's on Fox. He manages to not let them shout him down, AND to make sense without seeming to be partisan.

11. The same Clear Channel that makes sure we have no local news or programming?
Edited on Thu Dec-10-09 09:52 PM by lib2DaBone
You mean the same Clear Channel that is hated among all local advertisers? You can't mean that Clear Channel is getting tired of owning all the airwaves and they can't even sell a $1 commercial because they are so hated..?

But George Bush, Colin Powell and his kid.. (Michael Powell).. told us that Repubicans owned the public airwaves and that we could make a million dollars without doing any work.. if only we carried Fox News and Limbaugh? We screwerd the American people and we still can't make any money...?

Clear Chanel wants their money back.. and a tax-payer bailout.... what's wrong with you people?

You are very in-sensitive to the needs of Corporate Monopolies.. shame....
