Rummy compares himself to Abe Lincoln
and no longer reads newspapers.

http://csmonitor.com/2004/0514/p01s01-usmi.html

"One day you're gonna look back, and you're gonna be proud of your service, and you're gonna say it was worth it," said Rumsfeld in a voice solemn with emotion. Drawing a historical analogy, he spoke of the "horrendous casualties" and "vicious" debate over the Civil War and attacks on President Lincoln, assuring troops that today, as then, steadfastness would bring success."
"The embattled Defense secretary also used the friendly Baghdad troop rally to defy US lawmakers and others in Washington who are clamoring for his resignation: "I'm a survivor," he said. He brushed aside media criticism as shortsighted. "I've stopped reading newspapers," he said to a round of applause."

4. Yes they are all delusional
Didn't Bush compare himelf to FDR? And Blair to Churchill?

There's a psychological term for this that I can't think of now -maybe after another cup of coffee.

7. I think you're looking for "delusions of grandeur"
But didn't * say he didn't care about history's opinion of him since he would be dead or something.

10. the assault on American History continues
apparently they think Iraq is the Civil War, American Revolution and World War II wrapped together.

According to them, the only war it's NOT is Vietnam.

13. And I had only believed Kissinger's assessment that he is the most
ruthless of men, but surely this also means he is a sicko and wacko.

16. Minions are delusional they keep comparing themselves to great people
Since bush and minions are not great and big losers they seem to want to identify with some of the greats of history

abe lincoln
FDR

Bush thinks he is FDR and
Now rummy thinks he is Abe

Both of those people believed in the good for the whole and people rights and doing good for people...... .

these guys are so whacked they see the light outside themselves and try to say their DARK side is light......NOT

18. Funny on so many levels
It will be even more of a riot when Southern Reconstructionist Ashcroft compares himself to Lincoln. This cliche revival is even more irresistible than the Hitler comparison. Both are equally damaging to your intention.

I think LBJ really caused the downfall of the invocation by comparing himself and his great suffering to Lincoln- with the strong allusion that we would win this war too. That history would judge this mocked maligned and awesomely long-suffering bureaucrat as a monumental hero- a martyr(though, heavens to betsy, NOT getting shot like Lincoln!).

I just grin because this is a real sign of losing, this desperate grabbing of Old Abe's trouser legs. And I bet it must really really impress the Lincoln hating Freepers and Southern revisionists who have been trashing Lincoln for years. They continue their hatred of blacks and Lincoln and the North yet strangely have totally reversed their vendetta on the GOP which is not really on their side now anymore than it was in the Civil War, while the Dems have grown beyond all of them.

Bush used Lincoln, now Rumsfeld. As this inappropriate smarm works down the Cheney of command I will look forward to more derisive and comical posturing that will drive the wingnut base mad.
