Was Saturday's rampage really unimaginable?
Was Saturday's rampage really unimaginable?

On Saturday, Gov. Jan Brewer stepped before the podium outside the old state Capitol to speak to a nation looking at us, and perhaps to us, for answers. Like every Arizonan, she was shaken. Like all of us, she was shocked and straining to understand how such horror could happen in our beloved state.

“(It is) an unbelievable tragedy that the people of Arizona experienced today,” she said. “One of which, of course, in our worst nightmares we … never could have imagined would have taken place.”

Couldn't we?

On Monday, Brewer will step before the podium and open the 2011 session of the Arizona Legislature. A Legislature that has slashed funding for the seriously mentally ill. A Legislature that has loosened gun laws to the point that any nutball can legally walk around with a pistol in his pants.

We don't yet know what role, if any, the actions of the Legislature played in what happened on Saturday. But if ever there was a time to re-examine the cliff we are headed toward, this tragedy certainly provides it.

“We're the Tombstone of the United States of America,” Pima County Sheriff Clarence Dupnik said on Sunday and really, who could disagree.

2. I've been warning people that something like this would happen
for 2 years. Most people laugh like its a joke, some get angry and call me paranoid, I was even attacked by a tea bagger at school calling me a lier.

6. And so have I. Some of my GOP acquaintances were angry back in November
that I objected to their campaign rhetoric and that I stated "someone is going to get shot when you all talk like that. Seriously!"

I wouldn't back down and I said again "Someone is going to get killed and it will be your fault!"

Of course, they have kept their distance from me since then. I imagine they'll really do it, now.

hearing the wing nut tea bag talk and going off on a shooting spree.

4. Fuck you, Brewer. YOU are the problem.
You and other brain dead repukes who love to incite violence, then hide like the cockroaches you are when someone takes you up on it.

5. not really...the right wing has been killing people for years
this shooting may wake up people that the real terrorists in this country could be their neighbor, the person they work with,or the clerk in a store. but i`m not holding out any hope that the american people really care. the rightwing will tone down the message but it will still be the same.

8. What's really unimaginable is
this kind of thing NOT happening. With Limbaugh, Beck, Hannity, Palin, etc. prancing around on the national stage and infecting the nation's consciousness- who could reasonably expect anything different?
