Mr. President. In Libya we are seeing a true grass roots uprising against a megamaniacal tyrant. These people are asking for our help in their truly courageous fight against their oppresser. If you ponder on this too much longer there won't be anybody to left to help.

The Islamic Conference http://www.monstersandcritics.com/news/africa/news/article_1624759.php/Arab-League-meeting-to-focus-on-calls-for-no-fly-zone-over-Libya">supports a no-fly zone over Libya. We can enforce such an action. Our Navy pilots can take out Libya's anti-aircraft sites (how many does Libya have?).

IF you stand by while these people are crushed by Gaddafi's forces, as without help they surely will be, the reputation of the U.S. will suffer terribly among the Arab people. They will conclude the U.S. only supports dictators who protect U.S. oil interests. If you help this people's uprising you will remembered by the Arab people of this area as a hero and someone who backs up his talk with actions. (remember your speech in Cairo?). We will be viewed as taking action in a righteous cause with no personal pay-off involved other than that it is the right thing to do.

By helping these people you have a chance to significantly alter and improve the attitudes of the people in the North African and mid-East regions towards the U.S. Do nothing or act too slowly and the impact will be the reverse.

I know some are counselling caution. And I know that is where your instincts lie. But this is not a time to tarry. THis is a time for action in a righteous cause - to help in a fight for freedom by a truly oppressed people for which you will be remembered and revered .... IF you do not take too long to act.

1. He won't stand up on behalf of a grassroots movement in Wisconsin, so ...
...do you really think he'll do so for one in Libya?

2. No US intervention - learn the lessons of Iraq!
You are calling for war against Libya - I disagree. Obama is correct not to intervene militarily.

I of course am not advocating anything like a war on the dictator Gaddaffi

Iraq is in no way comparable.

In Libya there is a real revolt going on there. the people got fed up with Gaddaffi and started their revolt against Gaddaffi on there own, unlike Iraq. It was a campaign to free Iraqi oil. All the talk about WMD and ties t al Kaida was just a web of lies made up to provide a pretext to invade a large country with an army that was the http://www.cdi.org/terrorism/primer-iraq.cfm">fifth largest in the world at the time of Cheney's invasion to free Iraqi oil.

The neo-Cons decided to invade Iraq before they got there puppet put in the WH by the Supremes.

In the case of the Libya the people are asking for us to enforce a no-fly zone. As stated in OP the Islamic oLnference is in favor of setting up a no fly zone. They want Gaddaffi thrown out of power.

With Iraq, we weren't asked to invade. It was a plan set up without regard to whether anybody in Iraq wanted us to invade their country. With regard to Libya I am not advocating invading the country.

as stated above at the time of cheney's invasion Iraq had the fifth largest militery in the world. You can't even make a comparison of Libyan military to that. it's absurd.

Analysts say Gaddafi tried to emasculate the regular army to avoid the emergence of commanders who might rival his immediate family, relying instead particularly on three loyal "regime protection" units often of his own tribe.

That leaves him with what most estimate to be some 10-12,000 loyal Libyan troops. The most reliable formation is seen to be the 32nd Brigade commanded by Gaddafi's son Khamis.

Repeated reports from witnesses, rights groups and others talk of African mercenaries flown in by Gaddafi to help put down the revolt. Exact numbers are impossible to obtain.

6. A no-fly zone would be an act of war.
There is no UN resolution to justify it. Isn't this exactly what we criticized Bush for concerning Iraq in 2003?
