Is Florida about to become Wisconsin with a suntan?
You need a scorecard to keep track of the dizzying number of anti-worker bills in the agendas of Gov. Rick Scott and statehouse Republicans. The goal is to weaken the voice of ordinary Florida families while strengthening the hand of Scott and his fellow millionaires. The anti-union agenda makes Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker’s program pale by comparison.

What’s the plan for the Sunshine State? Eliminate dues checkoff for union workers; shut workers out of politics; cancel tenure for teachers; cut workers’ pensions; and force public-sector unions out of existence unless a union can show more than 50 percent membership in a workplace, each and every year... We’ve heard a lot about restricting, and even eliminating, labor unions out of Tallahassee. But we haven’t heard a word about any corresponding new regulations on corporations.

In Rick Scott’s Florida, working people — including members of my union who work for Miami-Dade Transit — will not be permitted to contribute freely to their own unions, or to candidates and causes of their choosing. But businesses will still be able to deduct money from employees’ paychecks for corporate political action committees, which can then donate funds to candidates hand-picked by company executives...

9. Flori-duh isn't like Wisconsin. The people here for the most part aren't as well
informed or educated (speaking as a former Midwesterner living in Florida for 20+ years). Maybe it's the warm weather and the sun, maybe it's the crap school system or our proximity to the deep South, but Floridians are a complacent bunch. About the only thing they ever wake up for are gas prices.

12. Florida has a completely different demographic than Wisconsin.
Everybody here is from someplace else.
Many people are from other countries.
Many of those are here illegally.
Their whole employment plan revolves
around undercutting US labor.
We have an enormous retiree population.
They 'got theirs' and just want somebody
to cut their grass for the lowest price.
(I think it's worth noting that a significant
portion of them are from the North East)
Lastly, we have our typical yahoos
that 'don't need no stupid union'.
We have a lot working against us.

2. You forgot one Executive Order Tricky Ricky
signed. No votes on this one. Effective in 60 days, all State of Florida government workers will be subject to Random Drug Testing. This will include teachers, police, and firefighters. No mention whatsoever, who will be paying for this, and WHERE the testing will be done. Want to bet the testing will be done through Soltanic, the drug testing chain that Mrs. Scott owns.

Rick Scott has to be the most CORRUPT of all the new Republican Governors. He doesn't belong in Tallahassee. He belongs in FEDERAL PRISON.

11. Are they paying attention now? Do they understand? Are they trying to understand?
Probably too late anyway, but we can hope so.

5. The ACLU has issued a statement that they will pursue
Scott's Random Drug Testing order. There is precedence for this one on the Federal Level. Scott thinks he is now KING, but nobody is against the law, and he has already had his run ins with the law, Federal at that.

There is an old saving. Give a thief enough rope, and he will hang HIMSELF.

7. It is sad to see
how awful Rick Scott is. I mean, I knew he would be bad, but sweet jesus this corrupt f**k is just plain evil. It is a testament to how pathetic our two-party system is that Floridians would elect this obvious fraudster just because (R) was next to his name.

You would think that all the people who fled Castro would be all up in arms over this bald Fidel.
