Bohner warns he's gonna start the fuze on the economy over debt ceiling
Mr. President, please come out and say unequivocally that deficit reduction without tax equity is just gunning down the middle and lower income people and even thought the GOPers don't give a damn about the 'little' people - it puts economic growth in jeopardy.

Talking Points Memo:

http://tpmdc.talkingpointsmemo.com/2011/04/white-house-failing-to-raise-debt-ceiling-would-be-armageddon-like-for-economy.php?ref=tn

Fresh off last week's down-to-the-wire spending showdown, President Obama and Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) are locking horns again on fiscal matters -- and this time the stakes for the U.S. economy are even more monumental.

The White House is demanding a "clean" bill to raise the nation's debt ceiling rather than using it to cut additional spending or for policy additions like last week's attempt to attach legislation defunding Planned Parenthood, but Boehner has already said that idea is dead on arrival. There's no way a debt-ceiling bill would pass the House (i.e. the muster of his unruly GOP conference) without some spending cuts for balance.

Unlike in the beginning of the battle over this year's spending plan, the rhetoric over the debt ceiling is already white hot. White House spokesman Jay Carney on Monday said the consequences of failing to raise the debt ceiling would be "Armageddon-like" for the country.

"We cannot play chicken with the economy in this way," Carney told reporters at a briefing. "It's just too darn risky. It's not appropriate."

1. So if Boner destroys the world economy
Edited on Mon Apr-11-11 07:09 PM by Drale
can we arrest him and send him to gito? I mean Manning supposedly did harm to the US, if Boner does major harm, that means we can torture him right? Can we also put it on TV?

EDIT: for spelling

5. That's right
The international community has been watching this with exasperation at the stupidity of Congress.

If America officially defaults on its debts, international markets will be plunged into chaos.

There will be worldwide calls to disengage with American investments and the American dollar (which is already tanking).

America will soon find out just HOW dependent they are on the rest of the world propping up their failed economy.

3. He's bluffing
Who are the biggest supporters of the GOP (and many Democrats), and what would a default by the government do to their investments?

He wont go there, but theres probably a deal with the admin already in place to slash one or more vital programs, so he's playing his part.

Every good piece of fiction needs a bad guy.

6. Of course he's bluffing. And he's sweating bullets because
he KNOWS the big boys will never allow a default and he's afraid that WE'RE going to figure that out and make enough noise about it to leave him hanging like a piñata in the teabagger caucus room.
