Gov. Haley Barbour (R-MS) says Mississippi doesn't need Washington's help with health care reform because "there's nobody in Mississippi who does not have access to health care."

"One of the great problems in the conversation is the misimpression that if you don't have insurance, you don't get health care," Barbour said.

Barbour was speaking with Christopher Rowland of the Boston Globe, who pointed out that about 18% of the state's population lacks insurance, roughly half a million people. Rowland writes:

........................................................................
........................................................................later in the article we read:

In an email to Sam Stein of the Huffington Post, a Barbour aide clarified that Barbour was talking about "emergency room procedures" when he said that everyone has access to health care. "The Governor is imminently aware the status quo is not optimal for Mississippians, as it's neither cost effective nor does it address his preventative care concerns," the aide said. "It's for those reasons that Gov. Barbour has promoted the concept of a 'medical home' for Medicaid beneficiaries and has advocated for private market solutions."_____________________________________________

That is exactly what George Bush said years ago.
These fools never change their selfish tune.

8. Everyone in Mississippi has access to a Rolls Royce dealership too
that doesn't mean they can make the payments on one.

2. Oh, dear - I think I have heard something like that before. The first
time was when I was helping to set up a community based public school system for developmentally disabled students. We were canvasing and one of the home owners said "we don't have any of those kind of people".

The when George McGovern was working on hunger issues many of the southern states insisted they did not have a hunger problem in their state. George promptly did a survey with photos and proved them wrong.

Most people who are doing fine wear blinders because they are afraid to admit that it might be them next. Or they are so greedy they do not want to do anything about it. Today I suspect greed is the driving force.

7. Yup. And just try to get chemo or radiation for cancer at an ER.
Those fucking idiots who think that care at an ER is the "same" as regular medical care are total fools.

4. The wingnut talking point is that they can go to the Emergency Room.
Emergency Rooms costs is one of the primary causes for the increase in health care and the concominant rise in health care premiums for the rest of us. The Corporate Media and the Democrats continue to allow the wingnuts to get away with touting this talking point, day in and day out.

5. Going to the ER, is absulutely the worst kind of care...not only
Edited on Thu Apr-21-11 01:15 PM by Stuart G
it is not preventative, it costs more than any other kind of care, and is clearly not as effective, as simple preventative care.

The Republican's are so selfish with their talking points, that they shoot the country in the face, just to save the asshole insurance companies some profit. No other explanation is possible. The Pukes who talk this, have insurance, so they are not talking for themselves, but for the insurance companies.

..Now, the insurance companies are doing quite well within the present system..they are not going broke and will not go broke..so if they insure more people at same proft, it would be ok...in the long run to them...so it isn't about that

..Bourbor wants the insurance companies to have even more profit..and even worse coverage for the poor people in his state. Only someone with that point of view, could say what he said...

Let's see an honest interview..Barbour and Ryan on one side...

Hmmmmmmmmm..
....Racheal Maddow, and Olbermann..or maybe Thom Hartmann on the other?? what do you think??

....open ended for 2 hours, no commercials.
Charlie Rose as moderator. or another..Ellen Degeneres.
