Unauthorized Immigrants Pay Taxes, Too (nearly $11 billion in 2010)
The Institute for Taxation and Economic Policy (ITEP) has estimated the state and local taxes paid in 2010 by households that are headed by unauthorized immigrants. These households may include members who are U.S. citizens or legal immigrants. Collectively, these households paid $11.2 billion in state and local taxes. That included $1.2 billion in personal income taxes, $1.6 billion in property taxes, and $8.4 billion in sales taxes. The states receiving the most tax revenue from households headed by unauthorized immigrants were California ($2.7 billion), Texas ($1.6 billion), Florida ($806.8 million), New York ($662.4 million), and Illinois ($499.2 million)...

1. Those taxes are a windfall for the governments
Because the illegal immigrants don't collect tax refunds.

2. As I understand it, they pay Fed taxes, too. If someone is using a phoney
SS number, the taxes are taken out, paid by both the worker and employer just like normal, but that worker does not officially exist, and so will never collect on that SS. And, SS Admin doesn't notify either INS or the employer that the number is invalid, so as long as that person works there, he'll pay into a system that will benefit him nothing.

As I said, that is just my understanding - as far fetched as it may seem.

3. Texas' previous Comptroller did a study on this topic:
And, she found that illegal immigrants PAY MORE in taxes than they consume in various services provided to them, such as schooling. Also, this Comptroller was a Republican.

4. I guess we have to balance that against the millions of American citizens who
are now paying less in tax dollars because their jobs are being done by "unauthorized immigrants".

Is that a good thing?
