I've wondered lately if the Pugs aren't deliberately putting up fake candidates because they want to lose the election because they know the economy, which their insane policies have thoroughly wrecked, is never going to get better and they are strategically avoiding the WH knowing that vast herds of ignorant boneheads will blame anyone who's in there for the disaster.:tinfoilhat:

4. I think that those of the GOP who AREN'T Clinically Insane

are severely distressed by events. All three of them. On the other hand, there's no such thing as bad publicity...and even crazy people have money, if only their social security...and they vote, especially when driven for free.

They will cope. I'm not sure about the Democrats, though.

6. That's simply not the way the

political process works. Those who run for office almost always believe they actually have a chance to win. And Republicans of whatever stripe are going to believe that the country is better off with an R in the White House, and will do their best to nominate someone they think can win. As it happens, there are Republicans all over the spectrum, even though the extreme right wing of the party is currently in control.

Those Republicans grounded in reality recognize that there's a slim chance at best for any Republican to win the Presidency in 2012, and so most of those who might be actual good candidates are staying home. That opens the field for the Bachmanns, the Trumps, the Palins.

Keep in mind the essential reason Bill Clinton got elected in 1992 was that in 1990, in the wake of the Gulf War, the conventional wisdom out there was that Bush would inevitably be re-elected, and so all of the more established Democrats stayed out of the race. I am NOT suggesting that this brand of history could repeat itself. That would depend on Obama screwing up big time, which I don't think -- I hope won't -- happen.

In short, no one ever runs planning to lose.

7. Conventional wisdom ignored the slowly crashing economy of Reagan-Bush 1

Sadly for Poppa Bush, the emerging economic disaster caused by rampant over spending and poor fiscal policy came to roost on him in his 1st term. He got the punishment that Reagan should have been given. However, seeing that Bush Corp. is uniquely responsible for putting a feeble minded ex-governor actor in the White House, you could say they reaped what they sowed. And yet the idiot son got elected.....sigh.
I don't think Obama will lose either, but once 2012 is past, keep your eyes firmly on 2016 as well as the mid-term 2014 elections.
If the GOP is going to pull serious vote fraud, they'll start in 2014 in preparation for 2016, and that election will be serious...
Some of them truly believe that "permanent majority" delusion and will do anything to make it happen.
