Oakland shooting rampage's grim ripple effect

Jenkins and Ocie Parks, 28, of Oakland, had been a couple since they attended Fremont High School in Oakland. Two years ago they had a daughter, Billie. "He was a loving father. He always put family first," Parks said Tuesday. "Whatever it took, he always made sure he provided for his family. He adored his daughter."

Parks said she will miss Jenkins' sense of humor. "He was always very funny. He always made you laugh. We always joked with him and called him Scrooge because he was so set in his ways," she said.

"He was wonderful. I couldn't ask for anything more. I love him to death."

Williams was an after-school aide at Peralta Elementary School in Oakland where, among other duties, he oversaw students doing homework in the library. His son turns 5 next month. Williams' mother is still on the support staff at the school on 63rd Street, just east of Telegraph Avenue near the Berkeley border.

Kathy Rieves, whose daughter attended the school, called Williams "a warm, loving, gentle young man who loved children and who worked hard."

His killing is "really hitting them hard," Rieves said of Peralta's students. "This is somebody they knew that was close to them."

"Adam was like really, really, really nice," said Zeke Idelson, 10, a fourth-grader at the school. "I know it's not possible, but what I really want to happen is having him come back to life. He was like my other father."
