Australia signs up to Star Wars

"AUSTRALIA and the US signed a pact this morning (AEST) to develop the controversial missile defence shield dubbed "Son of Star Wars".

Defence Minister Robert Hill and US Defence Secretary Donald Rumsfeld signed the memorandum of understanding at the State Department for joint missile defence system development and testing.

"Both the US and Australia share deep concerns about the proliferation of ballistic missiles capable of carrying weapons of mass destruction - nuclear, chemical and biological," a statement issued after the signing said.
