Georgia Cops Bust 10-Year-Old Girl’s Lemonade Stand
When three girls in Midway, Georgia set up their lemonade stand, they intended to raise enough money to go to the water park. But the ever-vigilant local police quickly identified the girls’ effort as criminal enterprise and shut them down.

“It’s kind of crazy that we couldn’t sell lemonade,” 14-year-old Casity Dixon told WJCL. “It was fun, but we had to listen to the cops and shut it down.”

The police chief and another officer discovered the stand only one day after it had opened.

“They told us to shut it down,” 10-year-old Skylar Roberts said.

1. It was obviously a front operation for a insidious teenage girl run mafia.
Boy it seems that they can not find anyone smarter then a rock to be a police officer in the south.

10. Meanwhile...
GE paid no taxes in 2010, and the incentives that they received in return have themselves been given a tax break.

2. The article's headline is intended to incite
yet there a couple of points to consider:

14 is a bit old to run a lemonade stand

This was day 2 the stand was open. Traditionally the childhood lemonade stand is a one day venture, not an ongoing business.

4. *It was open for two days in summer!!?* How dare those kids!
And an otherwise unemployable 14 year-old doing it to raise money!?

Good Christ! If it had been open any longer, the cops would have been fully justified in tasering them!

27. We know that the cops wanted to shake them down for a $50 "license" to keep going
which is appalling enough.

you are, however, free to keep taking the side of the cops over the kids. Sadly, you wouldn't be alone in rationalizing such appalling behavior, which explains a lot about the times we live in.

48. You are aware, are you not, "having all the facts" is a condition that's manipulated politically?
The Republicans continually play on this "we don't have all the facts" theme.

Viz:
"I was taken out of context"
"Some people are saying..."
"We have experts here..." (their own "experts")
"Allegations of election fraud need to be carefully investigated, and are inappropriate now." (to postpone the investigation until it's too late to matter)

This circumstance always makes me suspicious of the "we don't have all the facts" meme.

the call. AND $180 a year on top of that.

Look, I teach, have taught for three decades, live in Texas all my life, so I know stupid. Cops shutting down the threat to public safety lemonade stand did something stupid.

and found them to be rather ridiculous. So what if the girl is 14 and had it open for more than a day? Is that really going to bring down Western civilization? When I was a kid nobody would have even debated this. It was just widely accepted as something kids do to make a little extra money, and no harm ever came of it. Kids shouldn't need permits to do stuff like this. We should be encouraging them and be grateful that they aren't out selling dope.

You think you're being rational? LOL.

43. Laws should make sense
and exist to protect people. Nobody is being protected by this. All that's happening is that being a child and doing kid things is being criminalized.

Is it humanly possibly for you to have a bigger stick up your ass about a lemonade stand? Jesus Christ.

and the kids and the parents.

The whole story is there, and seriously, the police CHIEF says they had to be shut down for public safety since no one knew who made the lemonade or what it was made with or how it was made.

Bet those cops like shaking down kids on Halloween for their candy, too!

No beggar's license??!! Off to old Bailey for you!

We lived a mile from a lake, and me and my best friend built a lemonade and koolaid stand at the beach and made $20 to $30 a day in the summer. And that was in 1952 when $30 was a HELL of a lot of money, especially for a 9-year old kid.

23. If the cops have nothing better to do than break up lemon-aid stands,
then there are too many cops. If they already have all the cops they need to find missing people in their area, investigate murders, and keep an eye on violent gangs, then they should fire the excess workers. A police officer with idle hands is a scary thing. Literally threatening little girls over a lemon-aid stand is over the top.
