Rick Perry's College Transcript: A Lot Of Cs and Ds
Rick Perry's College Transcript: A Lot Of Cs and Ds

WASHINGTON -- As governor of Texas, Rick Perry has pursued a controversial agenda that would gut Texas' vaunted public university system in favor of something that more closely resembles a business.

As the Washington Post reported on Thursday, professors have been ranked according to how profitable they were to the university. Previous reports suggested Perry wanted to treat students as "customers" and tie teacher bonuses to anonymous student evaluations.

One reason that might explain his hostility toward the system: He didn't do very well in it. A source in Texas passed The Huffington Post Perry's transcripts from his years at Texas A&M University. The future politician did not distinguish himself much in the classroom. While he later became a student leader, he had to get out of academic probation to do so. He rarely earned anything above a C in his courses -- earning a C in U.S. History, a D in Shakespeare, and a D in the principles of economics. Perry got a C in gym.

Perry also did poorly on classes within his animal science major. In fall semester 1970, he received a D in veterinary anatomy, a F in a second course on organic chemistry and a C in animal breeding. He did get an A in world military systems and “Improv. of Learning” -- his only two As while at A&M.

3. I'd bet Sarah Palin is pissed
He managed to do so wonderfully all at one university. She's probably green with envy, as is Rush Limbaugh who never finished college.

22. You only had to have a 2.0 to run for yell leader.
He was a chickenshit as a yell leader, too. I did not vote for him, for governor or for yell leader.

6. I wonder if his dad reminded him of the draft, and that
maybe he didn't know the right people to keep him out of the army if he flunked out. He joined the Air Force after college, though.

9. Come on we are talking about Organic Chemistry 2
Lots of Medical school dreams have crashed against that rock. I never got passed Freshman Chemistry in B.S. Mechanical Engineering.

I tell my younger daughter who wants to be a doctor that, while Organic Chemistry 2 will mean little for your Medical School training, you have to get through the process to get into medical school.

11. Maybe so, but I found the class to be easy and fun.
I took it as an elective. Maybe I'm a freak.

Lot's of stupid people had problems with it when I took it and lots of them went on the become doctors. At least 3 of them that I know of are doing IME's as their main income which means they are useless and dangerous parasites who should be shot (just my opinion on anyone who hurts others at the bidding of insurance companies).

13. I don't care so much about him flunking what is a very tough class.
A D in economics is understandable for any Republican as well. But I think most people who are intelligent and actually work at their studies can manage more A's and B's than C's and D's.

I can only conclude that he is either stupid or lazy, if not both. In the mold of his mentor, GWB.

23. I majored in Chemistry and Forensic Science.
I have to Agree. Some of the biggest cheaters were the Pre-Med students. They would do almost anything to get in Med School. My class was about 60% Pre-Med. It was tough for those of us with Chem Majors, competing against those with cheat-sheets, while we tried to actually learn something.
I didn't rat them out, since most of them were good friends and I understood what their goals were.
My physician Has a PhD in organic Chemistry. She is one smart Lady.

10. Eh. More Bs than Ds, more As than Fs.
I don't like transcripts being leaked. If they were Obama's, I wouldn't like it. That means I can't let myself like it when they're Perry's.

In fact, it wouldn't surprise me if it was Perry himself who leaked them. It means you can have a beer with him, or something.

19. Lord knows Dubya was dumb as a box of rocks, but it took him less than 9 years
to figure out the religious right was the wave he could ride into the White House.

Rick Perry, 2002:

It's a far cry from the Perry of 2002, who was described in a Texas Monthly profile as reluctant to discuss his faith in public. Asked how his religion informed his politics, he replied: "I don't think it does, particularly."

20. To be fair to Perry, when he decided to major in "animal science," he thought
Edited on Fri Aug-05-11 06:14 PM by enuegii
they meant "animal signs," with a concentration of studies in haruspicy as his goal. Then he found the Lawd, and casting aside his pagan idolatry, managed to eke out a C in animal breeding in the end.

Maybe he can tell us all how that "man on box turtle" thing is done.

On edit: typed a comma for a period-- must be a sign.
