Labor win in Australia 'would help Kerry in US'

Australia must have a general election by March '05 but is likely to go to the polls within a few months.

Labor win 'would help Kerry in US'

July 12, 2004
AN election loss for the Howard Government would give US presidential contender Senator John Kerry a boost, Labor defence spokesman Kim Beazley said tonight.

Mr Beazley told the ABC's 7.30 Report he believed Australian domestic politics was resonating inside American politics.

He said that as a Labor MP he did not have a public view on whether the Democratic Party's John Kerry or US President George W. Bush would win the US elections in November.

"But me as a political analyst commenting on the same set of facts would say this: that were John Howard to lose in those circumstances it would be a material boost to Kerry," Mr Beazley said.

1. They seem to think anti-Bush popular opinion will work for them
I'm speaking out of ignorance here (One of my favorite things!), but I assume this is an indication of how unpopular Bush is Down Under. Labor is hoping people will be more inclined to vote their way if it hurts Bush.

2. it's really more about domestic politics, but certainly Bush is well
on the nose in Australia..probably the most unpopular US President ever..especially when Bill Clinton was the most popular ever Down Under..

the reverse is also true..you kick Bush out and it will help us kick out our fool at the top !!
