A Tropical Storm May Form In The Gulf Of Mexico This Weekend, But No One Knows Where It Will Go
Setting aside Tropical Storm Katia, which should become a hurricane later today but won’t threaten the United States for a week if at all, let’s focus on the Caribbean wave that’s going to affect our region during the next several days.

You can see in the water vapor image below from this morning, the wave remains very disorganized.

Many computer models show the system developing into a tropical depression or storm in the northern or northwest Gulf of Mexico this weekend. At that point there’s a significant amount of disagreement.

The European model keeps the system, which eventually becomes Tropical Storm Lee, off the upper Texas coast before finally bringing it inland near Houston next Thursday.

1. None of the models is a very good one
since what Texas really needs is a tropical storm raining itself out over the state. Ditto Dixie, although this storm track will douse Georgia, at least, although it's too little, too late for most agriculture. It would replenish reservoirs, lakes and aquifers for next year.

2. This morning they were thinking this storm may end up dumping even more rain
on the upper east coast after going inland around Louisiana.

Way to early to tell but lets hope it stays west and gives the drought-stricken areas a good soaking.
