A Chess Terrorist? Bobby Fischer and terrorism
A CHESS TERRORIST?
Fighting terrorism, and Bobby Fischer

By Charles Decker
RAW STORY CONTRIBUTOR

We got him.

He fought with the United States of America against the Soviets, only to shun our great nation. He has been on the lam for more than a decade. He shows his face to the public only rarely, and even then only to continue to berate the United States’ “evil” foreign policy. But after an international manhunt lasting for decades, but intensifying in the past few years, we finally nabbed him. Another mission accomplished.

The world need fear Bobby Fischer no longer. Woo-hoo.
Yes, Bobby Fischer is behind bars, apprehended in Tokyo over the weekend. The former chess champion had evaded US authorities since a warrant for his arrest was issued in 1992. He has been hopping around Europe and Asia for the past 12 years. What was his crime, you might ask? Are you sure you want the shocking truth?

He played a chess game in Yugoslavia.

Yugoslavia! That country is a basket case, what with the ethnic cleansing and the heroin and the lack of oil for export. It’s not even called “Yugoslavia” anymore. Now it’s “Serbia and Montenegro.” Who changes their nation’s name? This is a country, not a 60's psychedelic rock band!
