Will Scott Peterson go free?
Los Angeles Daily News

By Brian Skoloff
Associated Press

(snip)

Nine weeks into the trial, a stumbling prosecution has let a deft defense gain such an advantage that without a tide-turning moment, Peterson will probably walk, trial-watchers agree. Nearly every day, defense lawyers explain away details that once seemed incriminating.

The $250,000 life insurance policy taken out on Laci Peterson? A prosecution witness, the man who sold the policy, acknowledged suggesting the purchase and said Laci pushed for a higher amount.

The hair found on Scott Peterson's boat? Prosecutors said Peterson never showed Laci the boat, bought shortly before she disappeared. But Peterson's lawyers countered that a witness saw Laci at the warehouse where the boat was stored days before she vanished.

The cement anchors prosecutors say Peterson used to sink the body in San Francisco Bay? Extensive searches yielded nothing, and defense lawyers got a detective to admit that the plastic pitcher that prosecutors said Peterson used to mold the anchors would not have worked.

And the defense has not even begun calling witnesses yet.

"If you were to stop this case today, I think everyone with a conscience would have to vote not guilty," said Dean Johnson, a former prosecutor and daily trial-watcher.

3. that was my thought exactly...
... for some reason, the life of one pregnant yuppie outweighs the lives of thousands of Iraqis. :eyes:

2. Here's a thought...
Perhaps he is not guilty.

I have to agree with Smirky McChimpster above....thousands have died and are dying in Iraq. Why is this Peterson thing all over the news?

5. probably
all they've really proven is that Mr. Peterson is one big f***ing asshole. I do concur with the other posters - why this is considered anything of interest outside of the local news defies logic.

6. Who gives a Cheney!
Same to that story of the missing pregnant woman in Utah? They should be local stories! Why the hell does the national media consider this a BIG story and breathlessly report on every day?

How many women get killed by their husbands/boyfriends every day? How many people go missing every day? How many missing minority people are they NOT reporting on?

Guess white and pregnant, or pretty and blonde are the new criteria for a national story if you are murdered or missing for the national media.

Soldiers are dying in Iraq, Iraqis are being killed in scores, but that gets very little reporting.

But Scott Peterson, Kobe Bryant and this missing woman.

That they have viewers interested in this crap makes me crazy.

7. Never thought he was guilty.
Always thought this was something Fox News threw at us to keep our minds off of the incompetence and recklessness of the Republican party.

Once the police announced that Scott Pederson went fishing in the SF Bay on the day of his wife's disappearance, they told whoever did this horrible thing the exact place to dump the body.

There is absolutely, positively no proof Scott was involved, and at a time forensic science can find clues at the molecular level, there should exist some physical evidence of Scott's guilt and there simply is none.
