Kerry 'will not change foreign policy'
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main.jhtml?xml=/news/2004/07/29/wus129.xml&sSheet=/news/2004/07/29/ixnewstop.html

America's allies expecting a shift in United States foreign policy from a President John Kerry should think again, his top advisers said yesterday.

Instead, members of Mr Kerry's inner circle could promise only "stark contrasts" of personality and style between President George W Bush and their candidate, who they vowed would be a "hands-on, engaged, diplomat-in-chief".

Rand Beers, the national security adviser to the Kerry campaign, opened a high-level briefing with a warning: "In many ways, the goals of the two administrations are in fact not all that different."

Mr Kerry has come under growing criticism from foreign policy commentators for failing to offer more than the blandest proposals that he would restore frayed alliances and behave more respectfully of allies and international bodies.

But yesterday another top adviser, Richard Holbrooke, offered no details on policy questions ranging from Iraq to the Middle East or America's withdrawal from the Kyoto Treaty and the International Criminal Court.

1. Well, I just heard last night at the convention that there would
be a world of difference between the two. And on c-span this morning they two international people on, Kim Campbell, former Prime Minister of Canada and a guy whose name I don't remember from Bosnia(who was very good and c-span doesn't have his name written down)..anyway..they thought the international community would be way better off with Kerry as Prez!

2. Kerry better change his thinking between now and November!
Or he will lose the election. He cannot beat Bush as an imperial war President. Bush has most of those votes locked up anyway.

There is a majority in this country now who oppose continuing the Iraq War, they will not pay that price in blood for oil, and as the casualties mount, this majority will get larger.

Kerry could win with this peace majority, or lose as war canidate #2.

4. Review Carter's convention speech - there will be a change from Bush
Foreign Policy. You can bet on it.

P.S.

<snip>

"No American soldier should ever be held hostage to dependency on oil from the Middle East," he (Kerry) said.

<snip>

Kerry has said it again and again. . . .

Together, Americans will be freer and stronger when we break our dependence on foreign oil.

Today, we consume 2.5 million barrels of oil per day from the Middle East, where instability has pushed prices to record highs. These soaring energy costs are burdening middle-class families with higher gas prices, and our dependence on Middle East oil is putting our national security at risk.

America will be safer and freer when the resources that fuel our economy are in our own hands, when we develop new energy sources right here in America.

6. what majority are you referring to?
I've seen you reference this in several threads. The only poll I've seen that's anywhere near what you're saying is where a majority (54%)of Americans now think the invasion was a mistake. That's a long way from "a majority in this country now who oppose continuing the Iraq War".

If there truly was a "peace" majority, then why isn't Dean our nominee? Or Kucinich?

Besides, Kerry is not running as an "imperial war president", and if you think that is the case then you really should pay less attention to sources like the right wing Telegraph.

The only way Kerry will lose this election is if more people vote for Bush. Who are you voting for?
