1. "our work won't be completed for the rest of our lifetimes"
Edited on Thu Aug-26-04 10:50 AM by seemslikeadream
and our childrens' childrens' lifetimes, I'm sure of that.

You who are on the road
Must have a code that you can live by
And so become yourself
Because the past is just a good bye.
Teach your children well,
Their father's hell did slowly go by,
And feed them on your dreams

6. "Ein Volk, ein Reich, ein Fuhrer, ein Volk"
One People, one Empire, one Leader, one People

One Hope, One people, One country, One leader.
One Hope, One people, One country, One destiny.

Stand up be brave my people we're here to stay, for a thousand years.
An oath you've spoken, can never be broken, you'll pay, in blood and tears
Never tire, never doubt, never falter, never slacken, Just believe in me.
Stand up, shout loud, stand proud, in what we will we will achieve.

One Hope, One people, One country, One leader will set you free
One Hope, One people, One country, One destiny for a thousand years

Ein Volk, Ein Reich, Ein Furher, Ein Volk,
Ein Volk, Ein Reich, Ein Furher, Ein Volk,
Ein Volk, Ein Reich, Ein Furher, Ein Volk,
Ein Volk, Ein Reich, Ein Furher, Ein Volk.

It's not enough just to say you love your country, its not enough.
It's not enough to get down on your knees and pray, it's just not enough.

The price is high, the price you have to pay is your freedom, surrender yourselves.
Mothers send me your blue-eyed blonde-haired boys and let me see them, blue-eyed blonde-haired boys.

One Hope, One people, One country, One leader will set you free.
One Hope, One people, One country, One destiny for a thousand years.

Ein Volk, Ein Reich, Ein Furher, Ein Volk,
Ein Volk, Ein Reich, Ein Furher, Ein Volk,
Ein Volk, Ein Reich, Ein Furher, Ein Volk,
Ein Volk, Ein Reich, Ein Furher, Ein Volk,
Ein Volk, Ein Reich, Ein Furher, Ein Volk,
Ein Volk, Ein Reich, Ein Furher, Ein Volk,
Ein Volk, Ein Reich, Ein Furher, Ein Volk,
Ein Volk, Ein Reich, Ein Furher, Ein Volk.

One Hope, One people, One country, One leader will set you free
One Hope, One people, One country, One destiny for a thousand years.

8. Power through joy - vacation in the third empire?

Holiday camp for the BFEE?

Nazi resort up for sale

THE German Government is to auction part of a 10,000-room hotel complex built by the Nazis as a resort for soldiers and workers.
Hitler commissioned the holiday camp at Prora on the Baltic island of Rügen as part of the Nazis’ Kraft durch Freude (Strength Through Joy) programme. The sale, on September 23, will be handled by the auction house Norddeutsche Grundstücksauktionen AG.Germany has been trying unsuccessfully to sell the resort for more than a decade.

Inside the holiday camp Hitler built

Prora was built by the German Labour Front, Hitler's Keynesian answer to mass unemployment, to provide rejuvenating package holidays for the German working class. The site included a cinema, a school and a hospital, plus a huge jetty that still juts out into the sea, where Strength Through Joy cruise ships would dock, en route to the Canaries. Each double bedroom had central heating, en suite wash basins and, above all, a wonderful sea view. Billy Butlin, eat your heart out.

After the war, Rügen ended up in the Russian sector and Prora became a top-secret army base, a virtual university of warfare, where Warsaw Pact troops rehearsed for a Third World War. The holiday camp that Hitler built became a hi-tech military training camp, where Soviet soldiers played wargames to prepare for the apocalypse to come. Out of bounds to locals, Prora disap peared from East German maps. A wild wood grew up around it, hiding it from the sea. Today, Prora's camouflage is complete. You can stroll for miles along the beach, only a few hundred feet away, and never know it's there.

After the fall of the Berlin Wall, the soldiers left and Prora became an awkward historical curio, an uncomfortable reminder of a century most Germans would rather forget. A plan to turn it into a hotel came to nothing, and I'm sure I wasn't the first foreigner to wonder why the Bundesrepublik didn't demolish it. But I'm glad they didn't and believe it would be a great shame if they ever do.

First, it's actually rather fascistic to obliterate every architectural trace of a previous, vanquished regime. The Third Reich was an historical era. Uniquely awful, but unique none the less. Prora is the largest remaining monument to the worst of times, the flip- side of the Final Solution. Tragically, for the majority of Germans, Rügen was more real than the concentration camps. Without Prora, it's impossible to understand how Auschwitz happened.

through their German subsidiary, Demohag. There were IBM machines at Auschwitz, the trains ran on time every day:cry:

10. Unrelinquished sorrow and tireless investigation

And so, Thomas Watson, like everyone else in the United States, was aware that Adolf Hitler was persecuting the Jews, stealing their assets and getting them ready for the worst forms of physical destruction, even extermination. At one point, where when World War II breaks out in 1939, in September, the New York Times quotes on its front page that the Germans intend to instantly remove 3 million Jews from Occupied Poland. And the question is “How”, in the New York Times it says, “can this be done without physical extermination?” It is right at that time…during that month…that Thomas J Watson approves of a new school for Hollerith businessmen in Berlin and he approves it through oral agreements that are very hard to document, (but which are eminently clear from the memos explaining them), that the new alphabetizers that Germany did not have will be brought in to Germany. And it’s during that period that Thomas J. Watson and International Business Machines forms a new subsidiary in Poland to service the Reich in Occupied Poland. They form another one in Holland to service the Reich just before it invades Holland. They supply them from Occupied France, all over Europe. This is not a book about the German subsidiary Dehomag. IBM wants you to think that, because they want you to believe that this is just a company under the thumb of Adolf Hitler. Hitler was all over Europe and IBM was all over Europe and in most instances, those subsidiaries were controlled directly out of New York.

Well, in the case of IBM and the Holocaust, there is a small group of people who have been encouraged and promoted to engage in a Hollerith campaign…in a Hollerith denial campaign. Hollerith denial, like holocaust denial, can only be defeated with pure documentation and factual presentation and what we have learned is that eminent credentials are no guarantee of the truth in the case of IBM and the Holocaust. And so, what IBM has been doing is sending out, in a sub rosa fashion, a 12-page backgrounder filled with erroneous information that the Anti-Defamation League has called a distortion of history and morally bankrupt. This has been completely marginalized by most of the historians in the world and by the public at large. But it is true that there is a small group of people who are willing to either accept this without thinking or they’re willing to actually invent information about the uses or non-uses of the Hollerith machine. Fortunately when I speak, I have the documents, and it’s because I have the documents and the documentation, and because it’s bulletproof, that IBM, in the many months since my book has come out, has never been able to answer why it engaged in the Holocaust. It has never opened its archives, it has never found one sentence of my book that’s incorrect and they have been asked many times.

It IS globalization. It was globalization before you knew the word existed. It was globalization before the word appeared in the English language. It was globalization pioneered by Thomas J. Watson where they worked with the Japanese aircraft industry through Belgium. They controlled their Nazi-occupied subsidiaries through Switzerland and everything ultimately funneled down to an office in New York.

Becau- we’re not entering another war. We’re IN another war. And what we have discovered is that finance is the backbone of international terrorism. And the consequences of conducting commerce with killers has come home to roost. And this was pioneered by IBM and Thomas J. Watson on a globalized fashion. I’m not talking about trading with the enemy. I’m not talking about being a war merchant. I’m talking about global alliances with organizations who are determined kill innocent civilians. And this should now be a hallmark to other globalized corporations that they need to draw the line, including with their overseas subsidiaries in Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and elsewhere in the Middle East that are openly catering high tech services, high tech products, and financial services to these people who are devoted to terrorism.

Well because when people discern atrocities they see the redness of the blood. They see the blackness of the tragedy. What they need to understand is that behind that is the green of money and finance. And we need to draw a line, a moral line. I spoke to a man who told me slavery wasn’t immoral because it was not illegal. IBM danced on the head of a pin to stay within the law. They were, in fact, engaged in the legal participation in genocide. I maintain that no company should allow its economic muscle, its technology, to be used to afflict innocent civilians.

I've always admired your tireless investigation and unrelinquished sorrow, bobthedrummer

11. Thomas Watson’s Final Solutions Company
Paul Monk

Adolf Hitler’s racial censuses, slave labour programs, genocide of the Jews and apocalyptic war making were all made technically feasible by something called the Hollerith machine. The Third Reich used thousands of them. They were manufactured by a company called Deutsche Hollerith Maschinen Gesellschaft (German Hollerith Machine Company), or Dehomag, for short. Dehomag was owned and controlled from New York by IBM. IBM was dominated by one man: Thomas J. Watson.
Between 1933 and 1940, IBM courted the Nazi Party. It also lobbied the defence ministries of the continent to catch onto what can only be described as a foretaste of the present-day Revolution in Military Affairs: the use of Hollerith machines for data analysis and logistics coordination. The Wehrmacht was its greatest customer.
Thomas Watson micro-managed this massive sales campaign from New York. Then he masterminded a scheme to keep IBM’s profits coming in from Nazi Germany right through the Second World War and the Holocaust. As France fell to the Nazis, Watson realised that his long closeness to the Nazi regime, for which Hitler had personally decorated him in 1937, had become a public relations liability. He therefore ostentatiously returned the decoration, piously denouncing Hitler’s aggression. The outraged Nazis wanted to seize Dehomag. But they couldn’t and they didn’t. Watson‘s IBM had them by the proverbials.
In his new book, IBM and the Holocaust, Edwin Black describes the dilemma that confronted Hitler’s regime in June 1940. “Since the birth of the Third Reich, Germany had automated virtually its entire economy, as well as most government operations and Nazi party activities, using a single technology: Hollerith. Elaborate data operations were in full swing everywhere and in Germany and its conquered lands. The country suddenly discovered its own vulnerable over-dependence on IBM machinery.”
Wasn’t it possible to simply Nazify Dehomag and produce the machines without regard to IBM? Doubtless, but it would have taken years and the war was under way. As Black puts it, “Holleriths could not function without IBM’s unique paper. Watson controlled the paper…Holleriths could not function without cards. Watson controlled the cards…Hollerith systems could not function without machines or spare parts. Watson controlled the machines and the spare parts…Even if the Reich confiscated every IBM printing plant in Nazi-dominated Europe and seized every machine, within months the cards and spare parts would run out.”
Even the all-conquering Third Reich could not out manoeuvre one of the world’s first true multinational corporations. Dehomag was not a simple, national operation that the Nazis could commandeer. It was part of a global conglomerate, relying on financial, technical and material support from IBM headquarters in New York. Watson quite simply held all the cards. And Watson was not about to quit the game.
