Who is Simone Ledeen
If the occupiers often seemed oblivious to reality, one reason was that many jobs at the
C.P.A. went to people whose qualifications seemed to lie mainly in their personal and
political connections — people like Simone Ledeen, whose father, Michael Ledeen, a
prominent neoconservative, told a forum that "the level of casualties is secondary"
because "we are a warlike people" and "we love war."

Simone Ledeen is the daughter of neo-conservative commentator Michael Ledeen. In October 2003, Simone Ledeen was posted to the Coalition Provisional Authority in Iraq.
Her connection with the Heritage Foundation was apparently key to her getting the job, as a May 23, 2004, Washington Post article stated: "For months they wondered what they had in common, how their names had come to the attention of the Pentagon, until one day they figured it out: They had all posted their resumes at the Heritage Foundation, a conservative-leaning think tank."

"The only paradigm they know is cronyism. We are teaching them that there is an alternative system with built-in checks and built-in review."

"Many Iraqis can hear me tonight in a translated radio broadcast, and I have a message for them: If we must begin a military campaign, it will be directed against the lawless men who rule your country and not against you. As our coalition takes away their power, we will deliver the food and medicine you need. We will tear down the apparatus of terror and we will help you to build a new Iraq that is prosperous and free. In free Iraq there will be no more wars of aggression against your neighbors, no more poison factories, no more executions of dissidents, no more torture chambers and rape rooms.

"The tyrant will soon be gone. The day of your liberation is near."

The day of our liberation, too, is near.

2. Without any awareness of the irony in his statement, the viceroy
Bremer announced that he wanted all foreigners to leave Iraq. This was right after he landed in Baghdad after it fell to US forces.
