"George W. Bush is a coward." -- scathing piece from the STrib!
http://www.startribune.com/stories/1519/4999202.html

Steven M. Nelson: Clearly afraid of the average American Bush ought to stop closing doors to all but screened supporters

Steven M. Nelson
September 25, 2004

George W. Bush is a coward.

That fact alone should give all voters pause.

I am not talking about his service record -- or lack thereof. Nor am I talking about his actions in waging war on terrorists or on Saddam Hussein -- although he did seem a little bit afraid of seeking international support for his Iraq war. In retrospect I guess he feared the international community wouldn't buy the gobbledygook about weapons of mass destruction and Al-Qaida ties and he would lose the opportunity to secure American oil corporations the right to exploit the fourth-largest oil reserves in the world.

Maybe it wasn't fear of criticism from the international community on that one but just the fact that all he had to do was hoodwink the American public to accomplish his goal. Now that the contracts are signed, we can ask all the questions we want. The problem with hoodwinking is that the hood always comes off in the end.

What makes George W. Bush a coward is his fear of the average American.

The only way to ensure his reelection is for him to get the average American to forget the loss of well-paying jobs with benefits, the death of 1,000 Americans for the interests of the oil conglomerates, the skyrocketing cost of health care and his giveaway of Medicare to the pharmaceutical industry at a cost of $500 billion instead of the $300 to $400 billion advertised during the bill's debates. Not to mention the mortgaging of our children's future to pay for the growth of government he has quietly promoted but refused to fund and now warns us to fear from John Kerry.

The proof of the president's cowardice is visible every day all over the country at every election appearance he makes.

1. Exactly. He's always been a coward. His Harvard professor said that
bush* wouldn't confront people who disagreed with him or who he disagreed with directly, that he would wait until after class and make snide derogatory (sp?) remarks about them behind their backs.

That's george in a nutshell.

2. It's utterly confounding to me that such a sleazy punk
is seen by so many people as "virtuous, honest, strong, etc." Maybe the fact that he is so shallow and vacuuous makes it easier for the ignorant non-critical thinkers in the populace to project their own fantasies on him -- aided and abetted, of course, by non-stop republican brainwashing and their compliant media lapdogs.

Will the nightmare ever end?

3. ha ha, sleazy punk! So true. I was confounded by coworkers who
think the punk is a "godly man" and is intelligent, courageous, etc., until I realized that their reasoning is bass-ackwards. This is how they think:

You can't get into Yale without being smart, so Bush must be smart.

You can't graduate from Yale without being smart, so Bush must be smart.

You can't be elected President without being the bestest man for the job, ergo he is the best man for the job.

It's enough to make you howl. It's toddler thinking. It's pre-rational thinking.

6. "pre-rational thinking" -- you've nailed it!
Frontal lobes are wasted on these folks, they operate strictly from the reptile brain.

5. Too scared to address Parliament
His Chimperial Majesty -- "branded" as being so tough and macho and forthright and decisive -- chickened out of a scheduled address of Parliament -- the government of our closest ally, for crying out loud, for fear a member that body might not say something flattering to him.

So brave he only allows scripted questions in his townhall meeting.

So brave he only allows thoroughly ideologically screened persons to attend his rallies.

So brave he holds, on average, one press conference a year.

So brave that he announced the decision to go to war with Iraq to congressional leaders by saying, "We're going to war. I only told you because I must by the laws of the Constitution," and then left the room.

Now we know what the ad men who left Phillip Morris are doing now -- they are "selling" the toxic and ridiculous George W Bush.

7. Well-said!
I look forward to tomorrow's batch of LTTE's from rightwingers howling in outrage over the Steven Nelson piece.

8. screened viewers = violation of constitutional rights
So where are the so-called "CON-servatives" to protest the fact that Bush and his Gestapo allies deprived people of their constitutional rights to assemble and to protest peaceably?

Where are their "principles" in action?

Now, had some right winger been deprived of his AK-47 for 2 minutes that would be grounds for protest as far as those CON-servatives is concerned.

But for someone to be deprived of the right to protest --- nah, no big deal.

9. The only thing that would have made this article better
would be to mention that Kerry does NOT screen his rallies and has held outdoor rallies with tens of thousands of people.
