They are doing the same thing that George Bush's soldiers are doing in Iraq.
It is called dehumanizing the enemy, and then keeping the public from knowing the truth. I think Orwell described it perfectly in 1984.

bring out the ugliest in humanity. The shocking behavior of those soldiers should not surprise us after we have seen evidence of our own soldiers committing similar war crimes. Its totally disgusting, war makes monsters of everyone who survives the turmoil, how else to explain? When will it all end?

and was what JFK tried to tell people. Obviously the GI's who called the Vietnamese slopes and gooks and burned their villages weren't for Kerry. I saw wonderful Gi's turned into cruel monsters. It happens.
