The 'Stop Loss' Scam, It's based on a lie

"I believe I served my country honorably," says Specialist Specialist E-4 David W. Qualls:

"Even though I did not expect to be rotated to Iraq, I did my time and served to the best of my ability. And I was proud to serve. But the Army made an agreement with me and I expected them to honor it. Iraq is a very dangerous place and I have a family to support. I did what I said I would; it's only fair that the Army do the same."

Qualls and seven unidentified plaintiffs have filed a class action suit: they are suing the U.S. government for breach of contract. The target of their ire is the Pentagon's "stop loss" edict that permits the military to keep them far beyond the stretch they signed up for – in effect, indefinitely.

Involuntary servitude was supposedly abolished with the Emancipation Proclamation: will we need another one that covers members of our supposedly volunteer military? Apparently so.

1. The 65,000 gay service members need to "come out" at the same time
Then they will be FORCED to have a "real" draft, and you can be darned sure that "mandate" would evaporate overnight.

Heck, even if they're NOT gay, soldiers should start claiming to be by the hundreds. Whole platoons and companies at a time.

In the meantime, sign-up to be on your local draft board, and be sure to have a voter registration list on hand (it lists party affiliation).

3. The voter registration list
Is it legal to use that as part of the decision making process? To me it makes sense, as a person can't reasonably claim to be a CO if they voted for Bush. Also, do you just ask your city clerk for a copy?

(I signed up for the draft board application, haven't gotten it yet.)

2. If a Democrat president was backdoor drafting..
4 foot 8 inch ladies in their 50s to go serve in Iraq, I'm guessing there would be nonstop outrage on the right. They have to be embarrassed about this policy, somehow. Where is our outrage, though? Have we given up on being angry at this administration or is it just that we don't have any popular voices in the media?

4. I just saw on AOL where some service members confronted Runsfeld.
With some very tough quesstions.

As usual, he didn't have good answers.

What a bunch of shit. If I was still in the Military and didn't have everything I needed or felt that the Military wasn't living up to their end of the bargain I'd be one squealy wheel MOFO...

You know the saying, squeaky wheel gets the grease and they can't afford to have one disgruntled soldier ruining morale for their whole unit. (Something I was very capable of doing.)

It's like that scene in Catch-22, where they want to take care of Yossarian to make him shut up.... LOL....
