HOMELAND SECURITY – NANNY NONSENSE: President Bush's choice for Homeland Security chief, Bernard Kerik, withdrew his name from consideration on Friday after supposedly discovering he had once employed an undocumented immigrant as a nanny. White House officials echoed the claim, telling the New York Times that Kerik had undergone "a very thorough vetting process" that "looked at all the issues relating to his public, financial and personal background," but that "t was issue alone…that terminated his nomination." As Josh Marshall notes, however, this claim implies the White House was ready and willing to fill one of the nation's top security positions with a rabidly partisan, backroom dealing shill for the pharmaceutical industry with a history of multiple abuses of power, alleged dirty dealings in Saudi Arabia, and stunning conflicts of interest, who was forced to testify just last Thursday in a controversial civil suit, had a warrant issued for his arrest as recently as 1998 and abandoned his critical post in Iraq.

1. This is evasive bullshit.
I'm sure the arrest warrant and sexual peccadillos were a much more
significant factor. They picked the nanny story because it is more
Clintoon-like, which provides a better deflection of the issue of
selecting a wanted man who is vulnerable to blackmail
as "Homeland Security Czar". :puke:

3. NPR played a short tape today
from a "radio blogger" (sorry I didn't catch his name) mocking the whole situation, saying that the nanny excuse is being used as a cover now whenever there is information they don't want to release. It's the new "I want to spend more time with my family."

He actually went on to say that savvy politicians will keep an illegal nanny on hand just in case they need a cover for leaving due to an unpleasant incident.

5. So what! Cheney made his fortunes the same way Kerik....
has been doing...cheating, lying, fraud, under the table schemes, stealing from the public. What did it get him? Cheney is the #1 man in control of the world.

...the White House was ready and willing to fill one of the nation's top security positions with a rabidly partisan, backroom dealing shill for the pharmaceutical industry with a history of multiple abuses of power, alleged dirty dealings in Saudi Arabia, and stunning conflicts of interest...how about Cheney #1 War Profiteer?
