Presidential Medals of Failure
Where's Kerik?

This is the question I asked myself as, one by one, the pictures of the latest Presidential Medal of Freedom awardees flashed by on my computer screen. First came George Tenet, the former CIA director and the man who had assured President Bush that it was a "slam-dunk" that Saddam Hussein's Iraq had weapons of mass destruction. Then came L. Paul Bremer, the former viceroy of Iraq, who disbanded the Iraqi army and ousted Baathists from government jobs, therefore contributing mightily to the current chaos in that country. Finally came retired Gen. Tommy Franks, the architect of the plan whereby the United States sent too few troops to Iraq.

3. I like this
To make these awards in the face of failure -- the mounting American death toll, the awful suffering of the Iraqis, the looming possibility of civil war, the nose-thumbing of the still-at-large Osama bin Laden and the madness of making war for a nonexistent reason -- has the creepy feel of the old communist states, where incompetents wore medals and harsh facts were denied.

Damn skippy

I am mad in Maryland as well BTW.

5. The Bush Administration lives in...
...alternative universe where bad is good, failure merits medals, evil is godly. Why do some of us see right through it and others think we're crazy?

6. Medals?
Come on, I don't for one minute believe that Tenent said WMD were a slam dunk. This is a bald face illogical lie told to Bob Woodward by the Bushies long after the fact in order to orchestrate blame to scapegoat the CIA. Everyone knows that a secret, tacit org. like the CIA becomes the scapegoat when incompetant elected officials create disaster. The CIA deals in facts and hard evidence! Tenent would have never said this if the evidence and facts did not support it. Everyone knows now and the CIA knew then, that they did not.

Finally, reorganizing the CIA is obvious move to further implicate the agency for intelligence failures that occurred in the White House!

7. Good old meaningless medals. just like the commies
Remember Brezhnev of the USSR or Kim IL Jung of N. Korea. Meaningless medals.
Except these medals (and cash) are for not writing any books and taking the fall for the worst series of screw up in our history. Might as well given them the George Armstrong Custer Medal for Military Genius.

:Bounce:

BTW I do not know if this true but Kerry and Edwards have filed suit on Blackwell

8. I believe it is true
But nothing will come of it unless people start taking to the streets and that is only going to happen if our candidate asks us to.

9. Just another way to take the heat off..............
it reminds me of the Captains of Industry who are often rewarded handsomely for their ineptness. Rather than admitting they made a mistake they'll honor them, give them promotions and tremendous perks thus somehow, in their twisted, sick demented minds, justifying their actions.
Same thing with the Bushies. They're never wrong, so giving these abject failures the Presidential Medal of Freedom justifies their illegal and colossal failures.
Hey, it makes perfect sense to them. Which only goes to show you how totally fucked up in the head these people are.
