Bring quick end to Social Security scam
In his radio address on the "looming danger" to the existing Social Security system, President Bush said, "In the year 2018, for the first time ever, Social Security will pay out more in benefits than the government collects in payroll taxes."

This statement is not true. The Social Security's Web site (www.socialsecurity.gov) clearly states, "So far, there have been 11 years in which the Social Security program did not take in enough FICA taxes to pay the current year's benefits.

During these years, trust fund bonds in the amount of about $24 billion made up the difference."

In addition, in 2018. the "bankrupt" Social Security system will have more than enough income from taxes and interest on the trust fund to cover all expenses and more than $3.7 trillion in assets.

1. Great Letter!
Instead of putting the extra taxes we've been paying for 20 years into a "lock box" it was used to finance massive tax cuts that go predominately to the rich. Now we're told Social Security is the problem -- not reckless policies by the Bush administration that essentially redestributed a vast sum from workers' retirements to the coffers of his wealthy constituency.

And this is what the Bush administrations counts on--the ignorance and culpability of about half of the Amerikun people.

4. That people are ignorant of the fact doesn't reflect so badly on them
as it does the media. This is one of a few areas we relay need to repair. The others being campaign and voting reform.

5. It makes me happy to see this.
What you stated should be shouted from the rooftops each and every day drowning out the BushCo propaganda.

Social Security is NOT broken.
