Smelling Out Your Perfect Mate
By Paul Carey
Western Mail - UK
12-20-4

We may all think that we choose our perfect partners based on their appearance, personality or even the size of their wallet, but research by a Welsh expert reveals the key to finding your soul-mate is the way they smell.

Professor Tim Jacob, head of the smell research laboratory at Cardiff University, claims that in finding our perfect partner, we are reacting to the subtle odour we are all born with.

He claims this phenomenon is nature's way of ensuring that children are born with the strongest immune systems possible to fight off disease.

And when it comes to finding your husband or wife, the research reveals that opposites do attract.

1. I know for a fact it was scent that attracted me to my husband
I don' know if it was for the same reasons in the article. But I swear he smelled just like Cherry Lifesavers. I found out later that he used Oil of Olay as a moisturizer and on him it smelt like cherries.

2. Yep, very very powerful.
It really gets that "visceral reaction" going. "Chemistry", if you will.

I bet we decide whether a smell on a person is "pleasant" after the fact. Whether that sweet cologne smells like candy or like antiseptic probably depends on the scent of the person under it.

4. Something smells fishy here ...
;)

Yeah, I can agree that scent is a strong componant, though I doubt if it is the only one. Pheromones are interesting chemical messages.

6. This is beyond pheremones.
More fundamental than pheremonal, and spooky in its subtlety and reason.
