North (San Diego) County Times: McCarthy era being ushered back in?
McCarthy era being ushered back in?

During the McCarthy era of the '50s, we marched to fight Godless Commies, singing "Onward Christian Soldiers" ---- "...marching as to war..." ---- and "Lead On, Oh King Eternal" ---- "...the day of march has come; henceforth, in fields of conquest, they tents shall be our home..."

During the years between then and now, mainline churches, seeking to be less provocative and more Christlike, rightfully removed these hymns and in effect, properly acted to separate church from state.

Currently, as some attempt to reintegrate church and state, and as latter-day crusaders actually pitch tents in Iraq, actions seen provocative by most in Muslim nations and by some here at home, Fox's Bill O'Reilly routinely bombards us with the latest, concerning evil, Christmas-stealing secularists and dastardly ACLU demons, as if to start up a new McCarthy-like era.

Why aren't latter-day church militants, involved in politics and so concerned about alleged constitutional slights at home, as righteously indignant about preventable combat deaths attributable to body armor shortages, or maimings related to inadequately armored vehicles in Iraq?

What if the so-called moral majority were as morally outraged over how insufficiently our war fighters are equipped, as Christmas creches? Why aren't they praying in congressional offices, demanding proper defense management?

All citizens should pray Rumsfeld's "on the cheap" war-fighting management and State's failed diplomatic efforts are soon reversed. Unfortunately, citizens shouldn't be shocked, or awed, if the only metal arriving in Iraq were GI belt buckles inscribed with the English equivalent of Gott Mit Uns.

Funny, that's not what the L.A. Times was saying about Murietta earlier this morning. Darn that liberal media anyway.

Murrieta is a city of affordable housing and deep conservatism -- a reminder that beyond the coasts, California is trending Republican.

....Here in the stout heart of red California, voters snort with disdain when they hear that President Bush's strong victory caught America's Democrats by surprise. Not a single Murrieta precinct swung Sen. John Kerry's way in the bitterly fought 2004 election; in many parts of town, 70% or more of the electorate cast ballots for Bush — a strong show of red unity in one of America's bluest states....

3. Murietta,huh
Where I live there are so many "conservatives" that have no idea what their political stance is or really care as long as they are seen to be against "liberalism". I asked what they meant by that. Not one could give a reasonably intelligent answer. I then asked about why they were so anti Kerry. They mentioned flip flop. Not one person could recall any flip flops from Bush. It was terrible. They vote and support based upon nothing other than what they have been fed or reared upon. This is what O'Reilly is trying to do. He hopes to sway those that pay little or no attention and are then appalled at what they do not even know.

2. Did you read some of the Repukes' post?
Here's a doozy

Liberals late to join the armor bandwagon

Democrats will continue to be the losers on Election Day as long as they keep up their vicious attacks on our brave soldiers serving this country.

You can be sure Donald Rumsfeld is doing a good job when he is given a standing ovation by our troops in Kuwait, despite one reporter's attempt to plant a question.

When liberals hate you but the troops love you, you must be doing something right.

How dare liberals pretend to support the armor for our troops now; their own candidate, John Kerry, and his running mate, John Edwards, both voted against funding the $87 billion for additional armor for our troops in Afghanistan and Iraq.

Liberals nominate an anti-war presidential candidate, and think as long as they say "we support the troops" over and over like mindless robots we will believe them. Their actions do not match their words. America voted for the troops' choice for president, rejecting John Kerry.

Merry Christmas to all my fellow Republican patriots.

4. Amurka needs an enemy... doesn't matter where... doesn't matter who,
it just needs an enemy so that it can be "on the right side" of something or other.

It is a form of psychotic behavior, but it doesn't surprise me any.

Hatespeak from the right is in fashion now, especially since the gubmint has been cultivating and fertilizing the climate of fear that it so knows how to milk for all its got.

Stupid uninformed people will help unravel this country, it will fall from within, not from without. It will undo itself.... all that will be left is corporate America and that will be the end of it.
