Inflicting Discredited Market Fundamentalism on Iraq
Why Are We Inflicting This Discredited Market Fundamentalism on Iraq? (December 22, 2004)

Instead of revitalizing the Iraqi economy, the US-UK coalition has imposed stringent neoliberal economic reforms on the country, condemning it to "market fundamentalism." Former World Bank chief economist Joseph Stiglitz has described the immediate privatization of almost all services as "a proven and predictable catastrophe." This Independent article argues that imposing an IMF agenda on Iraq will not foster democracy, but rather will fuel tribal resentment and religious disputes.

2. The author doesn't get it...
The point of the Iraq war was to ransack Iraq not only of it's oil, but of all it's resources to Bush's cronies. It was also to be a living "guinea pig" for market fundamentalists. The welfare of the Iraqi people is not important to the proponents of the Iraqi war. Profits are.

The only good news will be that market fundamentalism will go the way of the Soviet Union, but unfortunately, thousands and millions will suffer before that happens.
