1. What a moron!
Anybody got Dimwit Dooley's phone number? Like to give him a phone call and tell him what a weasel he is. If these stupid Democrats would just realize they need to stick together. It's not about Davis; it's about the Republcian thugs and their power grabs! Can't any democrats show some spine??????????????

2. I totally disagree
Look, it's a matter of insurance.
If Davis loses the recall and there's no Democratc candidate on the second part of the ballot, we lose. If he loses the recall and there is a Democratic candidate on the second part of the ballot, than the one Democrat will easily outpoll the many Republicans and we win (while depriving Bush of an unpopular figure to bash next year). If he wins the recall than it doesn't make a difference.

Thanks to the California Supreme Court's ruling, we can now have a Democrat on the second part of the ballot without voting for the recall.

What's the problem?

:wtf:

3. I'll second that.
I hope a Democrat runs and I hopes it's Dianne. She's got the appeal to crossover voters. She can take this race in a walk. Even if the recall fails, I'd bet she would still be the top vote getter.

4. I think you're both way off...
..if Davis is recalled, WHOEVER wins--Democrat or Republican--will get an appallingly low percentage of the votes and will be labeled "illegitimate." Don't put any Democrat in that situation. Besides, as soon as ONE Democrat enters, it give legitiamcy to this disgusting tactic by these thug Republicans. As long as Democrats stay out, it can easily be painted as a power grab, which it is!!!!!

I hate being right!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

5. Oh please!
The frosting on the cake would be IF the recall passes, for Democrat to be elected.

Sure this is a power grab by the GOP, are supposed to just sit back and let it happen??

I'm planning on voting NO on the recall. But I'd like to be able to vote for a Democrat IN CASE the recall passes.

6. No wonder the Republicans control the Senate and the House!
As soon as a Democrat puts his or her name on the ballot, then you're agreeing to play by the Republican rules! NEVER DO THAT! Look at the mess this country is in because Democrats cannot understand that simple rule of politics! You play by their rules, and then you're on the defensive! Don't put a Democrat on there, and put the Republcians on the defensive! This is not football--defense does not beat offense here!

This is so simple, simple, simple!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Glad you see my point. It's scary to think some scum like Issa might win, but a united front right now is the only way to beat those thugs back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

By the way, just moved to Denver from Los Angeles, and I AM DYING that I won't be able to vote in the recall election!!!!!!!!!!!

13. No, it isn't that simple, simple, simple
Whether we like it or not, Davis loses any popularity contest. Whether we like it or not, most voters will view at least one replacement candidate favorably. It is unlikely that Davis will be able to convince those who dislike him that there he should remain governor because there is simply nobody better on the ballot.

He will have to convince voters that the recall process is a more serious matter than Mr. Issa and his friends make it out to be. He will have to convince them that it should only be used for serious wrongdoing, and that, whatever else he has done, he is not guilty of malfeasance.

Davis' popularity is in the low twenties. He will have an uphill battle to keep his job.

I will vote No on the recall question. I will also vote for the candidate who, should the recall question carry, is most likely to deny Darrell Issa or one of his ilk the governor's office.

And even if he survives, he's finished.

8. Oh, Dooley!
Good God, nobody listens to that bozo. He's from a very conservative district, just south of Fresno and includes some of Kern and Tulare Counties. He's scared shitless of losing his job to a conservative so he votes with conservatives in the House something like 75% of the time (I'd have to look this one up to be more accurate). I believe he's endorsing Lieberman for the Dem. nomination. Minor, MINOR player here, folks.

12. Loretta Sanchez also urges Feinstein to run
From AP via the San Francisco Chronicle
Dated Tuesday July 29

Two Calif. Democrats urge Feinstein to run for governor
By Mark Sherman, Associated Press Writer

Two California Democrats in Congress urged Sen. Dianne Feinstein on Tuesday to run to replace Gov. Gray Davis in the recall election, shattering united Democratic support for the embattled governor.
Rep. Cal Dooley, a moderate from Hanford in the Central Valley, and Rep. Loretta Sanchez, a liberal from Garden Grove, said Democrats must have an alternative to Davis on the Oct. 7 ballot and pronounced Feinstein the state's most popular politician.

19. Yeah, there are so many reservations.
Especially, since reading about the Bechtel thing and what her husband stands to gain from the rebuilding of Iraq if that is still viable. I don't know if there will be any gains, but at first there had been a lot of hand rubbing over the possible profits and DiFi's hubby was one of the hand rubbers. I hope this is not why she voted for the Iraq war resolution. And, when you stack her up against a car thief, Dianne gets my vote.

21. Greetings, fellow Californian
As I said, in addition to voting against the recall, I will vote for the candidate most likely to deny Darrell Issa or some other wingnut the governor's office. You may think Bustamante is better than any of the others, and I respect that. However, writing him in won't cut it. You know it won't.

I'm not crazy about Dianne, either. But I'll be damned if I'm going to let some snotty yuppie fascist like Issa buy the governor's office for whatever that rat bastard plans to spend.

I've got two barrells aimed at that scumbucket. One is voting No on the recall question. The other is voting for the liberal/left (or even centrist) candidate most likely to win among the replacement candidates.

Get out of the way. I'm going to fire them both at the varmint.

25. Calm yourself, Dear.
Definition of varmints vary with one's point of view.

If Davis is truly in such trouble, what might happen if he resigns prior to the recall?

Which is more important, a Democrat in the Senate, or _____ in the Governorship?

On DU, especially among California DUers, most of us would agree that Issa is a varmint. And a scumbucket. And a rat bastard.

According to a link provided the other day by another member of our fellowship, if Davis resigns, then Bustamante takes over as acting governor until the recall election is held. Then, if the recall question carries, then the winner of the replacement campaign becomes governor and Bustamante again becomes lt. governor.

If Feinstein becomes governor, she would no doubt appoint an able Democrat to fill her senate seat. To one such as Feinstein, electability and ability are much the same thing.

ON EDIT

Guess what's on the front page tomorrow, dear?
And I appreciate your proofreading. You're the best.

26. Feinstein sucks. She and her hubby made a ton of money off the
war in Iraq...good thing she voted for it, eh? She also was big on telling people to 'get over' the theft of the presidential election and has generally been in Bush's ball court throughout this nightmare. She's a rich neo con. You won't hear her say a word in defense of the country. She's either a DINO or she works for Israel or SA, but certainly not for the good of this country.
