Fear trumps the economy stupid!
Edited on Tue Jul-29-03 07:27 PM by NNN0LHI
Thats right. A shitty economy won't win this election. As proof of that I submit the two below quotes. Both of these quotes came from September 14, 2001:

First quote - "One has to say it's not just simply a matter of capturing people and holding them accountable, but removing the sanctuaries, removing the support systems, ...and ending states who sponsor terrorism..."
-- Deputy Defense Secretary Paul Wolfowitz

Answer to the first quote - "That's the kind of talk I want to hear.
Glass them, please."

You can see who wrote the first quote, but I am sure many would here would never guess who wrote the second one? The second quote is from Bartcop.

We need to understand something. Normal, everyday, correct thinking people become completely different people when they are scared and pissed off. People will forget that they don't have two nickels to rub together if they fear that they have the boogey man chasing after their asses. It wouldn't be very smart politically to forget these strange little things about human nature when there is an election and a percieved war going on.

1. Ah, but it's not so cut and dried
Edited on Tue Jul-29-03 06:44 PM by Hardhead
Here we have a president who is demonstrably incompetent on both economic and security matters. He's pissed away the treasury and he STILL hasn't managed to fund better security for nuclear power plants, the coast guard and other Homeland Security agencies are woefully underfunded, he STILL can't tell you where Osama is, not to mention that Saddam fellow, and out of - what was it - 700 detainees after 911, not ONE single case among them, although we did manage to round up some prostitutes in New Orleans - yes, I know it's shocking - after a year-long operation.

I tell you, even some of the sheeple can see they're being sold a bill of goods every time Dumbass opens his mouth.

It's one thing for people to place security concerns over finances, but when the guy in charge is fucking them both up just as fast as he can, people aren't going to have a lot of tolerance for that.

2. just fear is a shallow and short lived emotion
A heroic democrat takes the paranoia and fear HEAD ON. We have nothing to fear but fear itself. We are in this together, all of us, republican and democrat alike... american and non-american... we all face an uncertain future; and we all have the power to defeat fear.

Every person who lives in fear comes like a moth to a flame for someone who is not afraid. Preaching a different way to overcome fear is not the path, nor is denial of fear, rather accepting fear and realizing that all human beings feel fear sometimes.

Being afraid for not having a job, and a way to pay the rent is a much worse kind of fear... so i respectfully disagree... truly in heart, people will respond to the most immediate threat to their welfare... and a failing bush economy is a more dangerous threat to american families than some amorphous boogeyman that has never ever been seen or found by the world's largest military.

4. Economy trumps all but the most traumatic explosions/anthrax/etc.
It could be argued that Bush is stupid enough to try letting another terrorist attack happen on U.S. soil right before the elections. The thing is, the internet will serve to bring those machinations to light, ensuring they backfire at the ballot box. The truth will be halfway around the country and back before they know what happened.

5. I have to disagree
I dont know a single person who is afraid of being killed by a terrorist. On the other hand,I know all too many people are scared to death of losing their jobs, being broke and ending up homeless.

6. Ask those same people what they were thinking about on 9/11/01
I will bet a dollar that not one of them was worried about any of those things you listed on that day. Not one.

10. "If another attack happens before the election"....then it is
Definetly bush's fault, again! they called for this with their attack on Iraq and their limited funding on the appropriately nazi named, "homeland security".

12. The new fear: U.S. economy
People can be afraid of bombs and Arabs and whatever the hell else this administration conjures from its spook bag, the bottom line is that once the economy really sours, a new fear will arise. The fear of what the FUCK ARE WE GOING TO DO WITHOUT MONEY?

That simple.

13. Fear of terror hits every group
The economy doesn't. The vast majority are not going to lose their jobs and will never care. Alot of people are so used to crappy personal finances, the current situation means nothing. Plus others who know a terrorist attack will hurt the economy even more. This should be a campaign on failed policies leaving our country vulnerable, from terrorists first and economy second.
