It's the Job Market, Stupid! |
|
THrowing my quote on an old Clinton line. I know that 2004 is quite a bit different than 1992, but it seems that some things repeat themselves.
Bush I seemed not to understand or care that we were in a recession. Now Bush II keeps asserting that the economy is surging, yet people are still left behind. The job market is in the shitter. I used to complain that the only jobs being generated were shitty sales/retail jobs. Now not even many of those were generated during the recovery. I have argued this point many times with people. I said that the economy is not getting better unless you work on Wall Street and are concerned about intangible numbers (Stocks, GDP, et. al.). A friend told me that he thinks that it is getting better, though not because of Bush. He thought the job market was starting to really improve. Two days later, I hear the report on CNN that the only reason unemployment went down was because 300,000 people quit looking for work. Only 1,000 jobs generated in December, when 100,000 were expected. This is not a recovery.
You say people are sheep. THe outcome of a re-election bid of a President, is a referendum on the presidency. Past presidents were defeated in re-election campaigns because people felt that they were not prospering. ex: Bush I. Past presedents were re-elected because people felt that they were prospering under them. ex. Clinton. By this Criteria, Bush II should be out faster than you can say go. This job market is just the tip of the iceberg, but a very big tip. People will get tired of this I can assure you. Even the capture of Osama bin Laden might not make a difference.

Just thought you'd like an example of the inevitable neo-con counter-arguments.

They've been largely setting up laws and rules to scare American citizens.
I kinda liked Clinton's terrorism methodology. We never heard about "substantial threats". We only saw terrorist plots being thwarted.
Yeah, some will slip through occasionally. But most terrorism is largely preventable. It ISN'T a military issue. It's a law enforcement issue.
I'm still flabergasted every time one of those senior brainless officials claim that the 9/11 scenario couldn't be predicted. Tom Clancy wrote a book about the scenario long before 9/11. The fact that John Ashcroft was flying private jets is the smoking gun that they knew something was afoot and just didn't give a shit.
